...the continuing chronicles of my freelancing...
this was the front page photo for this week's midlothian exchange (one of the weeklies i shoot for). it has already grabbed a fair amount of attention, which is a good thing.
who knows, i probably should have held this one back for the free-study. oh, well...
anyways, this assignment was an absolute blast. i had my camera wrapped up in plastic grocery bags, with masking tape helping to keep them in place. i shot everything at f/4 iso400 in av mode, so i didn't really need to get to the dials. all i really needed was access to the shutter buttons. it was a royal pain to switch lenses, so i had to somewhat plan my shots. unfortunately, since i had only planned on protecting my camera, i was somewhat tentative about where i went. i might just have to look into some of those housing made just for this type of work ;-)
however, the team invited me to come back sometime so i could suit up in battle armour and take the field with my camera so that i could 'really' see what it's like. can't wait for that!!!
anyways, amanda did a pretty good job with the story, which you can read here. or, if you want to just skip to the pix, you can see more here. |

Haven't played paintball in years. Paintballs really don't taste good. Getting a face shot will lead to some in the mouth.
I think my handheld camera steadiness came from years of sniping.

That's a fantastic capture! Takes me back to my paintballing days (was illegal here back then). My claim to fame was my 5 man team coming 3rd in a pump only tournament! Woot!

Pump only. That's what we did.

Give me LaserCorps anyday, held outdoors, instead of paintballs you shoot lasers and the guns have scopes or dot sights on them - I am a sniper so I go the scope - and they are accurate to about 150 metres which is something I have never seen in paintball guns.
The gun I use is a light machinegun with telescopic scope and 3 fire modes, you can have single aimed shots, fully automatic - a waste, or you can have a scattergun effect which is good to use if you get ambushed. |

Yeah...fun, but not the same without the pain! ;)

Great photos Skip (as usual). I don't know if I would've been as ballsy as you taking the camera out there, but it paid off nicely with excellent shots. |
