I am not sure that anyone will remember this photo from a backlit challenge in 2004. My long time friend departed this world yesterday. It was a very tough decision that I have battled for 2 months, but it was time to let go...
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I remember the picture. I'm sorry to hear about Reece's passing. Karma chimes in with a sad little "woof!" RIP, Reece.

There are a lot of special beings at Rainbow Ridge, waiting, and finding.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece.
My thoughts are with you now.

I'm sorry Julie,
hugs from me and Bailey.
I believe in the rainbow bridge, I also believe that our special furry friends leave their footprints on our souls......they help to make us who we are, they're with us forever. |

Thanks for the wonderful hugs! I was surprised to find a sympathy card from Reece's Veternarian in our mailbox today that featured 'The Rainbow Bridge'
It was such a tough decision. It is hard to let go, but the time was right. I am not walking in the door anymore feeling sorry for Reece and how absent she seemed. |

I am so sorry for your loss...I just don't know what I will do when someday I have to face losing my Zeke...
I also feel animals leave a special mark on us...I hope you have many fond memories to remember her by. |

Their lifespan is so short, compared to ours--saying goodbye over and over again, risking heartbreak...it's worth it, though, for all of those gifts they give us. I guess only parrots can outlive us in the pet category. Sorry for your loss. |

My condolences on your loss. I too lost a dog (I owned him over 10 years) and he passed away last April 2005. My best friend gone.
This is a photo of him with my husband about a month before he died.
Just know your pain will lessen over time and at some point you will start remembering all the sweet moments with him and the hurt fades away.
You gave him all your love and he had a wonderful life I'm sure.
{hugs} |

My condolences also. I lost two of my cats this year, my 18 year old lap cat, Bruno, I lost three months ago and then my eldest cat Nikki, who was a grand old lady of 20/21 we lost two months later. She was a determined old girl who wanted to live as long as she possibly could - I'm sure she borrowed someone elses nine lives. We got her from a rescue centre when she was only 6 months old and she loved everyone in the family except my third cat Muffin who she detested - literally. She didn't speak to me for three weeks when we rescued Muffin. In the past two years alone Nikki overcame three major surgeries to repair two broken legs and a broken pelvis. Each time I nursed her through these accidents to see her walking again much to the amazement of our vets and even at the end when it was clear to us that we needed to 'do the right thing by her' she clung on to life for all it was worth. Bruno was her best friend and I believe he knew she was very ill and he just lost the will to live becoming very ill. He just collapsed one evening and refused to eat or drink. It was a very sad day for us as we had had him right from a kitten.
I love the idea of Rainbow Bridge - although at this moment in time the idea of it makes me cry for my two lovely mogs. All the best |
