I've been wanting something pocket-size for awhile now and laboring over which model to choose and whether or not I really wanted to spend the money at all. The Adorama had a good deal on the SD700 through Amazon and I jumped. It arrived this morning. :)

It's definitely pocket-size - very small. Kinda makes me feel like I have sausage fingers. The controls will take some getting used to, both for size and location. But I think I'm gonna dig this camera. It's mostly an automatic camera - some control over iso, wb, exposure compensation, etc. but no aperture control. There are a million goofy settings like foliage, fireworks, beach, etc. I don't know yet what those really mean. But really all I wanted was something to stick in my pocket and take snapshots when I needed to and I think this will work. It also does 16:9 shots which is kind of cool.

Here's a few test shots...clearly snapshots...around my house and yard.

I'll try to update with a mini-review as I continue to use it.

Yay for new cam, MK! Aspen never looked better, IMHO. :) Glad to see Kristo is still looking hale and hearty as well.

I had a Nikon once with similar "scene" settings. The "foliage" one boosts saturation usually, and "fireworks" will give you a longer shutter speed. I think "Beach/Snow" does something with EV, but not sure. Once you RTM, you can trick the camera into doing some neat stuff for those times when you would wish for full control of aperture and shutter. I had a "Backlight" function that would push the shutter to 1/2000 sec which was fun to use at polo to stop motion, otherwise, there was no fast shutter speed setting.

Have fun, sweets!
