Start at the begining of this thread and let is know where you get stuck. I will be camping for the next couple of days so if others could help those that have questions that would be great. |

Wow! That's DENSE. Thick and choking and downright palpable. I assume that's what you were after? :-)

I have an image I am working on to submit for the free study. The original is 3264x2448 but I am planning to crop it around the subject tightly and do an effect in the background.
My question is: Should I do the effect and any dodging or burning before or after I crop it? What, if any, difference would there be?

edit: Had a question. Figured it out though. I should not forget that I changed the value of "flow" for the brush to 2%.

Okay, real question.
I think I've been trying to make an adjustment layer to be linked with another adjustment layer - does that just not work? |

Ok, I've made my own brush, but not quite sure what to do with it or how to use it on photographs... |

I don't do that. What result are you looking for? |

Create a new layer then paint with the brush. Most brushes work best with one click. |

I dont want to hijack the thread but figured this was as good a place as any. Some photoshop users may not be aware that adobe has a pretty good collection of tutorials on their site, many geared toward adjusting photos.

I have no idea really. I think I was trying to do something like adjust the levels of a contrast adjustment or something? Anyway, I think it was just something I tried once and (obviously, as this late reply shows) forgot about, so this doesn't really need further answering.
Something I've been trying more substantially to do is have an adjustment layer plus a mask. I have been able to mask regular layers and am trying the same thing with adjustment layers with no success.

An adjustment layer already has a mask with it. Just paint straight onto that layer with your black or white brush. My guess is that you haven't actually got the adjustment layer active before you start painting. Make sure that layer is the highlighted one in the layer palette. I know that sounds basic...but trust me...it is easily overlooked.

Yeah I have already learned to have the layer active... hehe, definitely have messed up with that type of thing more than once. I'd been trying to add a new mask onto what was already there, so that makes sense.
But then right after I thought I understood it but it still didn't work, I realized I was using the dodge tool instead of the paintbrush. ! Things are working now though yay thank you! |

I've made that same mistake. Would be cool if Adobe made the cursor slightly different to indicate that you are using a different brush/tool. |
