My brother built a "Shit Palace" (his term) for his cats. There's a kitty door from the house to the garage. In the garage at that point, there's a wooden structure raised up off the floor for the water heater (some sort of California thing, I think, that the water heater has to be up off the floor.) Anyway, he built a mesh screen cover for the space so the cats couldn't get into the garage, then built a door so he could get in there to change the box. I'd provide a picture, but don't have one. Oh, and one of his cats is HUGE, so the box itself is one of those flat under-the-bed storage boxes. No smell (except maybe in the garage and it's pretty well ventilated) and very little tracking into the house.
As for getting a cat to flush, mine loves to flush the toilet. He finds it amusing. He doesn't use it, though. Just flushes it. Maybe it's to refresh the water in the bowl, since it serves as a backup water dish. :-) |

Mine used to poop outside too... but now we have Fishers in our neck of the woods, and to them, cats are a delicacy... so now my lil fella has his own little box in the laundry room.

How do you stop the cat shredding the toilet paper? |

Just don't put anything on the back of the toilet. When the cat figures out how to flush they'll look for things to put into the bowl to watch go around in circles. |

That's really cool. I'll be dreaming of finding "stuff" to construct something close to that for my kitty too. |
