So On friday I'm buying a used sigma ex dg macro 24-70 mm f/2.8.

I'm now in need of a wide angle as I will like smash my kit lens.

I've been looking at a canon 17-40 f/4L, adn I was wondering what users of it think about it?

The 17-40 f4L is a great lense of course, but I'd offer that when I went shopping for a wide angle I went shopping for a wide angle. 17 on a crop is wide but not really wide. The 10-22 from cannon is an excellent wide angle, the sigma 12-24 (think it is 12-24) is also a great lense, Sigma's 10-20 is great, etc. Suppose it depends on what you are going to do with it if you need the really wide low end, but if you will already have 24-70 covered you would be buying the 17-40 to cover 17mm-23mm which is not much for a lot of dough.

The Tokina 12-24 is a good wide lens too.

The 17-40 is a nice lens, but 17mm is not that wide with an APS-C camera.
