Site Council.
Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em! ;-)

Seriously, most people have a good idea of the time, work and effort these volunteers give to the site, and their dedication to DPC.

When the time comes (for whatever reason) for them to step down and pass the baton on to someone else, I think they should be granted a free lifetime membership. Not only do I feel they deserve it for their service, but I think that with their experience and knowledge, they are folks that we definitely should encourage to stick around.

That is of course, as long as their departure doesn't involve some kind of horrible scandal and they are, like impeached or something. Then we could just turn them over to Art ROFLMAO. (but I just can't really see that happening) :-)

Maybe this already happens and we just aren't supposed to know. :-P
If that's the case, then quick, hide this post and I'll pretend I never said anything! hehehe

Ah, I'm just a sentimental old fart. But, what do ya think?

I don’t know much about the inter workings but each Site Council member does a lot of work that we see and don’t see for only $25 a year in the form of membership. As far as I’m concerned they are well under compensated. Each day they keep this site running to our liking and/or disliking for a mere 6¢ a day.

However each Site Council member applied for the position knowing the perks and lack of. I feel they should receive some kind of severance package when they resign on good terms but I think a lifetime membership is a bit too much. I think for every year they hold their position they should receive a ½ year membership free consecutive to their resignation or retirement from the Site Council. If one had been a Site Council member for 2 years they will receive 1 year, 3 years = 1 ½ years, 4 years = 2 years, and so on.

That comes out to be $150 for the four years that I've been on SC. That's about One Penny a day. I guess it's the thought that counts.

I think you may be jumping to conclusions when you said that each SC member applied for the position...I was asked, (nominated) and agreed. (I think Ben may have been asked too) What I agreed to back then, is in no way comparable to what we deal with now. We have had 10 zillion additional responsibilities added since then, and a lot more members to babysit. We went from one challenge a week, to 2, to 4...who knows what's next.
All that said, I love this site, and while I have gotten very little back from the site, I will volunteer to help out wherever, whenever I can, for as long as Drew and Langdon will have me, and I will never ask for a cent. But if it were given to me...I sure wouldn't turn it down. lol

I'd flip the ratio: 2 years/year of service.

Even better, I'd leave it up to Langdon and Drew. :)

Only if every time someone is snotty to the Site Council in the forums or via tickets or otherwise creates undue hassle, a half year is deducted from their membership. ;)

I think I am being misunderstood. Maybe I didn't explain what I was saying well enough. I'm sorry if I didn't. What I was saying is that the SC SHOULD receive free membership as long as they are a SC member. Not knowing what they get after resigning from the SC if anything, I was say is AFTER they leave their position on the SC then they should get a free year for every two years they have be a SC member.

So if someone has been a SC member since the beginning of DPC and I'm just rounding up here. They have been on the SC for 5 years. If they stepped down today they should receive and additional 2 1/2 years free membership for there work.

And I did state the SC do a lot for a little. It avg's out about 6 cents a day. Now thats underpaid. If SC members get free lifetime membership after leaving their position already then that's fine. I was basing my recommendations on two factors. 1) Not knowing what the SC gets after leaving, and 2) I don't think it would be fair if one joined the SC and resigned 6 months or a year later to receive a lifetime membership free.

Sorry if I offended anyone, not my intent. I respect what the SC does and believe they do a lot of work. Most we never see.

Well, all this is up to Drew & Langdon.

But as long as the subject has come up, I'll just chime in with a somewhat parallel example.

In our photo club, a while back our Board voted to give our webmaster a lifetime membership. Dues are $45 a year. He designed and updates the website and it looks pretty darn good.

Sometimes he goes away and takes pictures and doesn't update the site for a month or two and he doesn't even get hollered at.

And we are convinced we have a really good deal. Seems to me our DPC Site Council could be said to be under-appreciated.

In any event, they are doing a fine job and keeping this site pretty much under control.

Thanks, guys and gals.
