I'd like to fire these voters. |

Heh, I think I did my job too well. The shot was actually quite complicated to pull off and shots that look "hard" tend to get a premium with the voters. Apparently that has just gone over everybody's head. ;) Come on people! It took two days and many, many tries...
6.02
(I'm mostly joking with this venting...)

Thanks for the laugh - I really needed that :)
More like I'd like to SET fire to these voters - get a shot and submit it - Do ya like this better? Well, do ya, huh? (poor Clint Eastwood spoof)
I was extremely happy with my entry (still am) but don't understand the lousy 5.2 score.
Still chuckling....

Apparently this tripped some safety breaker and caused the servers to go down...

Pleasantly surprised. It's dropped from a 6.5 this morning but it still has the potential to be my highest score, though I really don't think it's my best shot submitted to date. |

I am not in this one so I am gonna do the 100/100% vote comment.
Here is my start:
You have rated 6 of 160 images (4%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 6 of 160 images (4%) in this challenge.
I am gonna do this all day today. Please don't flame me if you don't like what I said. Well on second thought if you really feel the need go ahead.

I really thought this would be about a 6.2, it's one of the best photos I've ever taken and it's scoring the lowest! This after last week when one of my worst photos scored second highest. However, I do agree with one of the comments that it APPEARS out of focus (b/c of my editing) but the second comment that it was "just plain horrible" w/out even telling me WHY is uncalled for. This challenge sux :(

hey now...
I thought my challenge would be at least 5+ or something, but started 4 +
I mean com'n... I risked my life trying to take that shot... How easy do you think standing under a rocket until "0" count down, and avoid burns...
I think I lost my eyelashes though :(
anyway, it is kind of weired voted challenge... It's probably fire photos are burning eyes... or, reminds old memories... like people here lost their kittens in the fire when they were young and WHAM-MO "1"
Trying to find logical explanation here...

More than any previous challenge that I can recall, there seems to be a huge difference between people's expectations and the votes being received. From what I can see, the quality of the entries is pretty darn good.
Since this is a member challenge, I don't think this could be the result of a group trying to throw the results ($25 / pop, it would get expensive), but I wonder if we could be experiencing an attack of the uncalibrated monitor? The dark backgrounds most of these shots have could be a problem for some. |

I think it may also be voter fatigue. Narrow challenges, I think, tend to get lower scores. Hey look, it's another shot with fire in it. As good as you think your shot was, there are probably a half dozen just like it which are better (in general).
For those with low scores I would also pay close attention to the technicals of your shot. With so many shots looking the same things like blown out flames will be jumped on and voted low.

When I say fire... usually black, or darker background comes to my mind...
Geeeeeesh :(

I think you missed my point - a poorly calibrated monitor doesn't handle dark backgrounds terribly well. |

I guess this is a 'what goes around comes around' thing. I wasn't 100% happy with my stopped motion and it ended up as a 6.4. I was much happier with fire and though it wasn't my best I reckoned on a mid 6 score - its finally climbed to a 5.5 :(

This is my first entry for a challenge ever. I am very happy that I at least submitted something. I'm very interested in knowing other people's comments and how I can only improve from this point on. |
