Well, I lost my best friend today. Oliver was 12 and will be greatly missed. He went to work with me every day. We were constant companions.

Sorry about that David... I've had harder times in the past losing pets than I have human acquaintances. All will be well though.

This is a sad day, but find comfort knowing you gave him a lifetime of love and companionship.

I took it really hard when my dog left us. I'll never own another, because I don't think I could go through it again.

Sorry about Oliver.

David,
Thinking of Oliver, will hurt for awhile...
but the memories of the love you shared...will...one day,
replace those tears with a smile.

David,

Oddly enough I had to put my best friend of 17 years down yesterday as well. Seventeen years...that is a really long time. I don't know if I have anything else around the house from the 80s (except maybe some clothes that my wife never lets me wear out of the house).

For me (and I hope you don’t mind me writing this, but what a great healing activity which is exactly what I can use right now) the decision to say goodbye yesterday was out of respect and dignity. Jackson, my loving four legged companion, was never, ever a complainer. Even the time he got a piece of metal wire stuck into, through, and out the bottom of his eyelidâ€Â¦he just stood their looking at me and waiting until I noticed.

So, knowing he would never let me know how much pain he was in, I knew I would be constantly fighting with keeping him with me or letting go. It was the last 16 hours that I knew it wasn’t about me or what I wanted anymore and I had to step up to the plate. In this world we are forced to watch our elderly parents and loved ones rot away all the while plugging this and that into them to sustain some illusion of life. For my Jackson he had earned the right to go out with his boots on and before all that we would be left to remember was the horrible end.

To Oliver and Jacksonâ€Â¦a well deserved place in our hearts for eternity.

David and Christopher,

Sorry to hear about your pet friends. :( Loving animals give so much and ask for so little in return.
