I use the free version. Funny, I was just at their site and was wondering the same thing. The stand-alone is $30 and the plugin is $50. I'm wondering if it's worth an extra $20 to not have to open another program?

I don't use Photoshop, I use Paint Shop Pro X so I would need the stand alone but I would like to know if I need the home edition or get the Pro edition.

I use the Plug-in version. The free one didn't allow me enough control and wasted waaaaaaaaaaay too much time when processing many shots at once.

Mostly, I don't think so (or would hope not). I'm not a big NI fan amd hope that I don't see enough noise in enough photos to need to be using it THAT much. :-)

The Pro Stand-alone version should be enough for most everyone that shoots RAW. The Home version (8-bit) is good enough if you only shoot JPEG.

I knew the Cheeseman would come through. Thanks for the info!

The benefit of the plugin is that you can apply it in a separate layer and then change the opacity. That allows you to control the results a bit more finely. I don't believe you can do that in the standalone.

Sure ya can...just put the newly processed image on another layer. :-)

Maybe I'm the only one, but I find NI (I use the free version) to be clunky and not very intuitive to use. Is the pro version any better? Does it allow more controls?

And what about Noise Ninja? I hear it mentioned, but it doesn't seem to generate threads like this. Does it compare to NI?

that's a good question I would like to know

I use Neat Image 5.5 Home+ edition. And I use MS Digital Image Pro 10. It works as a plug-in as well as stand-alone. I'm very pleased with the results and would recommend spending the $$$ for the "real" version. :-)

Ah, true. So I guess it depends on how much you use it and how tidy you need your workflow to be.

I have NI pro, but to me it's only really worthwhile as a plug-in to PS.

For a comparable price, you can get Bibble with it's built in version of Noise Ninja. This will really enable your RAW processing, and you can also process JPEGs in like manner to RAW.

I think there's a 30 day trial so try it out!
