What does candid means with the photography? :)

Candid doesn't necessarily mean 'without the subject's knowledge.' It simply means that the photo was taken without pre-planning the shot and without posing the subject(s). Candid photos are done 'on the fly' and are spur of the moment shots.

I thought "spur of the moment" shots are called snapshots, lol

Pros call quick shots of people "candids" and refer to non-pros' shots of the same things as "snapshots". lol
Seriously, in my opinion the difference is in the thought that goes into the shot. "I grabbed the camera & shot" will probably get you a snapshot.... but "She was standing in the perfect light and the flowers behind her matched her dress so I grabbed the camera" will likely get you a lovely candid.

It's all the same thing. Serious photographers just don't like to hear the word 'snapshot' when someone is talking about their work...

A snapshot to me is one that looks flat (no dof) someone just pointed the camera and shot... one that captured a moment but not a lot of thought went into composing it.
When I shoot a candid I "try" to add some element of depth or creativity.

He was a really nice man, I talked to him afterwards. If you fear being bashed up you arn't going to get the shots...
Pain is temporary but the picture is forever... ;-)
