I know the police are doing what they can. But the car has to have gas to go. Have any of the people that are searching driven out to the gas stations around where he was seen and asked the gas stations to review their security tapes for a day or two before and after the car was spotted there? If they see Steve on camera maybe call the police station with a positive id? That way the family will know he was ok at that point. They would probably do it just to be kind to his worried relatives.
I wish I could be out there looking for him.

Also, I know it was discussed earlier, but could someone clarify...

The officer who supposedly saw him sleeping...did he just see a vehicle and person that fit the description or did he specifically say it was Steve's car, with his license plate number was there?

Yes I believe it was confirmed.

I don't see what the problem is. People need a place to express concern, give ideas and just talk. And people should accept that a bump does not automatically mean he's found or there is new info...

Anytime this thread is 'bumped', it could mean there is new information. He was found sleeping in his car, he came home, etc etc. The thread has been stuck at the top here. It's easy to bookmark it or put it in your watched folder. If you really care, you would respect the families wishes.

P.S. I'm NOT saying you don't care.

I totally agree here, Amber. I feel that is what we are all about and some can't handle things well unless we can express the way we feel. This guy rocks and we all want to express our concerns. That is what brings us closer together.

So Di is family and the family wish us to stop posting?

I think that the posts are fine, but I think what was being referred to was the empty posts that say nothing more than 'bump'.

Ok, but to be fair there has only been a couple of bumps since it went on the front page.

Not sure if DI is family nor that it matters. But I do know that seeing anybodies interests, thoughts, ideas, etc are nothing but wonderful. I can't express how great it is that a web community can come together like this.

I can see how an empty "bump/ttt" may upset somebody thinking there may be updated news, but regardless, I find myself checking the thread for new ideas and thoughts every 30 minutes anyhow.

You guys have all expressed very good ideas and I would like to keep them coming. There is also nothing wrong with this community expressing their feelings towards Steve and his family.

Thank you everybody!

Security monster - Ditto - I am his sister that is waiting in Oregon and it is refreshing to see that so many people have already been looking and are continuing to do everything they can - Bless them. A lot of the questions asked, make me stop and say "oh, I never thought o f that"

So any information is better than nothing when the search is still going on - I myelf take comfort in checking this site and seeing the incredible amount of work these people have done already.

Thanks Again

I don't know Steve except through his photography but I am awed by the compassion and caring I see here and I find myself coming back often to check for updates.

My prayers go out to Steve and his family.

Back in the area that he was spotted, there are so many roads, honestly. You turn into them and find dead ends, sometimes they go places...

What I'm saying is that it would be difficult to locate the closest gas station, although we handed out a flyer at a Shell station we saw. It's just a lot more residential than you'd think.
08/03/2006 02:37:19 AM · #689
Would it be possible to email the head office of the gas stations - Shell etc, and ask them to notify their branches?

Another thing that could be done is to check with his cell phone company where was his cell phone last registered. Of course, this is another thing that cannot be done without some paperwork, but would provide some information about his location.
Technical: for as long as the phone is turned on, it 'converses' with the radio-based stations and depending on the area the location can be narrowed down significantly. I understand that he was in the populated area, which would increase the precision of his location. (more RBSs in the area means more precision).

Also, the myspace states that his phone stopped going to VM - I am not sure under what conditions can that happen. VM is not implemented on the handset, its function is performed by the service provider regardless of the phone state.

Again, I do not think that anything useful can happen (privacy rights) such as tracing the money (CCs, cheques, ATMs etc) or cell phone tracing until the family convinces a judge that they need to search for Steve.

I hope to see him alive and well soon, although with every minute that passes chances are slimmer and slimmer.

Can someone with a law degree in the US or at least with a holiday inn express stay suggest the FASTEST way to obtain a warrant from a judge that would enable all the search methods suggested in this thread?

shell for the press

I found the above link, but it is only for the media. I know the family have media contacts, perhaps they could email Shell and get Arizona and surrounding states on alert?

you guys- this is awesome. I keep coming up with ideas from things you have said! (and then I forward them on to the ring leaders- Tina & Daryl...) :0D
Also FWIW I had great cell reception the whole time we were searching.

I really am thankful for all of you and feeling so much more positive about the whole situation once Steve was sighted. We can all count ourselves as blessed on so many counts!

Bumping and sending all my positive thoughts to Steve's family and friends, here's hoping he gets in touch real soon.

I am leaving town tomorrow to drive to Idaho to pick up my daughter. I will check for news once I reach my brothers house. Makes me wish I had a laptop.

His cellphone does goto voicemail. Its as if his phone is either turned off or the battery is dead.

Being Thursday, and the weekend around the corner. Has anyone started generating a plan for more searches, on a larger scale? I'm just curious.

Hopefully, he's found before then, but was just curious.

Just chatting some more with family. What about Mexico? I know it sounds silly but its a thought. Border patrol should have video surveillance on vehicles and/or license plates. Not sure if we could get such information but its a thought.

I have to say that the response from everyone, from DPCers and Phoenix locals has been....well....__literally amazing__.

We appreciate all the ideas people have thought of so far and we've acted on most of them. I for one appreciate all the ideas bouncing around and am thankful that such a comunity of people can come together, share ideas, share thoughts and send prayers.

Unfortunately the search still continues.

I was always told to do 110% in anything I do. My father told me that. I have seen this and more from the communities and people helping me find my dad.

Thank you DPC community.
