Note: This is not a complaint. Just an interesting observation.
When we respond to comments left on our challenge entries, we should be pretty specific. I'm guilty of this. You know, we all leave the occasional question on an entry we have voted on--"How many shots did it take to get this," or "How'd you do that", or whatever. After voting/leaving comments on maybe 50 shots in a row, we get an email from someone that says, "Thanks for the comment. To answer your question, yes, I did do it that way." These always leave me wondering which comment they are responding to (since I don't know who's pic I'm voting on at the time). Funny we don't think of that when we respond to comments! |

Good point. I wanted to reply to questions on the "weather" photo, and I found it a pain to eplain the photo, their question and then my answer! A link of some sort to the original photo/comment would be great! But, no matter, we can always find a way to respond!

Another reason to implement a "ReplyToComment" button, which could trigger a PM to the comment-writer and quote the original comment, maybe with a link to the image. |

But if you reply you've already messed up the anonymous thing anyway.. its already done - the comments aren't anonymous and we can reply - but it would be good if it autoquoted the comment |

Having a button there would make it easier to do though, making it more common, making it more of a problem.

Don't implement/activate it until after the voting is over. People can achieve the same effect now anyway, but with the added "benefit" of gratuitously increasing the hit count on the commenter's profile page...
I'd be far more likely to respond to (thank, at least) ALL the commenters if I wasn't constantly diverted to profile pages just to get the PM link...

Can you code it so it won't work if the server date is before the expiration of the voting period? Or make it pop up a message saying that replying to comments during the voting is not encouraged, and that they will have to send a regular PM. |
