Technically the "old" ones have GPS locaters in em, people just didn't know it (more of a radio triangulation type thing). Mine has a setting (2 year old phone-not GPS) to have on always or just for 911 calls.

It is a current law that all phones sold have to have it in the US. the problem is that it only activates when calling 911. even if you have it set to on all the time it won't help. this option is for location based services such as turn by turn directions.

Deannda, I think you can probably stop bumping this quite so often. You might want to add it to your "watched" threads if you wish to keep track of it. The problem with bumping it so often is that it makes people believe there might be some actual news. Its driving many users nuts.

More importantly, too many bumps makes it harder to find actual information in the thread.

Please when you find new information let us know so that we can add it to our missing person web page that we have created.. .

For the DPC site, from Securitymonsters site:

UPDATE: Pinal County Sherrif's dept. saw his car at 2:30am on July 30th 2006 in the Superstition Mountains. They said that it appeared that someone was in the car sleeping but they did not talk with this person. But from police description they think it was him. Police have returned to the spot where they seen the vehicle and it is now gone. He has not returned home to Mesa.

Seems rather odd that the cops did not make contact with the person sleeping in the car. Usually they run a check in situations like that.

I have been watching for AZ plates on silver cars however I reckon the odds of him being up this way are slim to none. But If he is one to wander with his camera you never know where he might go. Ive gone to the local park with my video camera to shoot ducks and ended up in Chicago filming renovation efforts at Soldier Field. I have also ended up in Green Bay Beloit Wisconsin Dells and various other locations with in a few hours of here each time I had not planned on going any further than a few miles. Although I never have been gone for more than a day or two and I always call home. I can understand how easy it is to just wonder off especially if you live alone.

Hope this guy shows up soon. I would like to read a happy ending.

LoudDog mentioned eariler the place they saw him was a popular resting area. They verified he was breathing and let him sleep.

There is a couple issues here. It seems that the area is a very popular location for people to "get away" and take naps. So this is very common to see somebody sleeping in their car. ???

The other issue is that the missing persons report that we thought was issued wasn't, so when the police ran the plates, everything was ok. It wasn't until yesterday that the missing persons report was actually filed and then triggered a flag on the vehicle being spotted on Sunday.

One of his sons and his sister are now in Arizona staying at his house, attempting to locate him.

It's a very deserty rural area, it's not like a city area you are probably thinking of. It's actually dirt road there. It's also between two highways so I could see a lot of people pulling off the hwy looking for a quiet area to sleep.

I listen to my police scanner alot, many times i hear them check on people who are sleeping in cars. they usually wake them up find out who they are and make sure they are not in need of assistance. If the person checks out they let them be. In many cases they end up helping the person find a place to stay or direct them to a better place to park etc. Sometimes they make an arrest.. But they always check the persons ID. Thats why this seemed odd to me. But if this is an actual rest area where many people park to power nap etc.. Then I guess it makes sense to not bother everyone that stops.

It appears that the officers checking were not in possession of the missing persons report so were unaware.

See Securitymonsters early post.
