I took some great fireworks shots tonight on my new Lexar 1GB SD Card. The card came with a program that, after you download it, you reformat the card. The camera shows the photos, of course, but my computer won't recognise the card (it doesn't show up in My Computer...).

What to do?

Have you tried a card reader?

I have one somewhere, but I don't know where it is. I haven't needed it since I discovered my computer has one built in. ;-)

So are you trying to download the pictures via the computers built in card reader of by connecting the camera directly to the computer?

Does you camera have both a PTP and a Mass Storage mode? If so have you tried switching modes?

I was trying to use the inbuilt reader, as usual. You're right, I should try the camera's cable ... if you could find it. (I found the video cable, so could see them on the TV).

Assume you have tried re-booting? Sometimes the recognition of cards in built-in readers gets screwy depending on how you removed the card last time. ie. If you "safely remove all hardware" the computer sometimes actually shuts that "port" down...re-booting solves this.

Phew! I found both the old card reader and the camera's USB cable - I just looked in all the wrong places first.

Photos downloading at the moment --- very much slower than the inbuilt reader.
