Which probably means he'll be pitching for someone else when he makes it big. :P Btw, nice thread you got going. Some day when I get back to a ball game I'll be sure to read up on this thread before I go.

Wow, I'm using the slower Canon 70-200 f/4L no TC and can't get anywhere near that fast. With your 1.4xTC you should loose a stop. Are most of these pics before the sun goes down and before lights are effective. When I'm in the dugout I sometimes go to a 24-70 f/2.8 for plays at 3rd. I just find that ISO 1600 is just too much noise; 800 isn't bad at all. I just can't immaginf 1/2000 sec at f/4 and ISO of 400. WOW I need to get some of that pixie dust ;)
Great pics! |

The photo you quoted back to me in your last message was taken at 7:36pm on 7/7/2006. I actually had the exposure comp up 1/3 stop due to the brightness in the direction i was pointing.

John, I've been following this thread with interest. I noted that you use f/4 in the majority of baseball photos. What are the reasons for choosing this aperature and do you use aperature priority? |

I use that aperture because it's as wide as I can go with my 70-200 f/2.8 lens when I have the 1.4x teleconverter installed. That gets me out to 280mm at the cost of one stop of light.
I do use aperture priority for a large majority of my sports photography.

I have been looking at teleconverters, do you find you loose any quality in the images? Also, given the choice between the Kenko and Canon version is there one better than the other? |

I don't notice any quality loss with the 1.4x. I have seen some quality loss issues with the 2x models though.
I originally had the Canon 1.4x tc and i sold it because I never used it. When I found a new need for another one, I got the Kenko and I can't tell any difference between the two other than about $80 in price.

The Kenko Pro is more compatible with more lenses than the Canon TC is also.

Don't you just hate minor league park outfield walls?
They are such a pain in the ass for good photogrpahy. Mine is the same way though... gotta do what ya gotta do...
I decided to start a blog on my minor league experiences tonight. I know it's a little late in the season, but I enjoy writing about my game experiences sometimes...
