That's right -- you are still limited to one original file, but otherwise it's legal.

I have done this many times in advanced challenges. It's quite legal.

And here I am not doing it like a sucker! :)

Hey you have a good point there...I wouldn't want my entire photo to have a gaussian blur. You'd have to select certain areas for that. Hmmm...something to ponder.

Well, since we are downsizing to a 640xx image applying a bit of guassian blur at full size could reduce noise. After sharpening at web-size, most poeple wouldn't know you had blurred the image at all, if your were careful.

Edit : Also, blurring on specific channels is legal and can be real helpful in reducing noise.

Not such a sucker. It's not really documented anywhere...the only place it's been mentioned as being legal is in the forums. I suspect you're in the majority.

The truth is only a minority of shots would even benefit from such a treatment.

Unless you're a sunset-shooting dude like me, when dynamic range is an absolute priority...

I learn something new every day. I had no idea you could do that in advance editing. Would be nice if those that had been doing that would document it in their photographer comments... ;)

Ah ok. I guess I never read the comments on that one before. Too wordy. :P

When I do do it, I document it. My attack mode of choice is contrast masking, though. I think I've only entered one challenge with an HDR image. It's something I'm still playing with.

Bear

I don't know if you are aware that some who do HDR images recommend the use of Photomatix and FDRTools. I am just starting to look at this process myself.
