I bought the 50 mm f/1.8 lens everyone recommended so highly for my camera. But, I seem to get a lot of noise with that lens. What am I doing wrong? |

forgive the silly question, but are you sure you've set your iso to a low setting (100 or 200)?

Is it new? I have the MKI and can't fault it but as pidge says, what are your settings? care to post an example? Its good for low light but only so far!

noise doesn't come from the lens...it comes from the sensor.
check your iso. |

When you say "noise" exactly what kind of noise are we talking about? Typical graininess? Banding? Something else? Under what conditions are you experiencing it? Do post samples, including unadjusted but resized) originals and 100% (640px) crops. |

I'll try to post an example when I get home, but it's happening at 100 ISO. I don't notice the problem with my kit lens. |

If your shots are underexposed, noise can result. It isn't a product of the lens, but perhaps you are trying some low light photography with your new f/1.8 lens. I'd blame the light in that situation before I blame the lens.

Without the USM it is a pretty noisy lens, but that is the audible kind of noise.
