The high deserts of Utah are just spectacular right now - the recent rain has all the sage brush green and smelling fresh - it's cool - and in most cases, I come to the top of a rise on my bike where I can see for 20 - 30 miles and there's nobody else on the highway - I love my bike.

Oh yeah, here's a train I ran into on the high desert -

I thought you should see it - they are parked on a side rail waiting for a north bound train to come through - yep I have photos of that train too! :-)

Trains and horses - glad I live in the west.

I do love trains :)

You should send that photo to the railroad company (not sure which one that would be from the photo). They love to see stuff like that and it could end up on one of their calendars at some point... beautiful shot :)

I'm glad you live out west too, if that's what turns you on. But in case you've never been here we have trains

and horses

out here on the East coast too. In fact, the American railroading industry got it's start right here in my town as the Baltimore & Ohio RR; and George Washington raced his thoroughbreds at what is now Pimlico. ;-)

Harvey,

The best part of the west is that I can swing a dead cat without hitting a fellow American (or other fellow earthian) almost 85% of the time when I'm out and about shooting!

Where I've been in the east, south, and far west (cali), that cat swinging is a darn hard thing to do!

Just friendly ribbing -

Oh, and we have BIG mountains - better for trains to rumble through.

Here's a couple more trains out in that cat-swinging space -

Look at the cat swinging field behind this train! I'll bet 50 people could swing cats in that field alone!

train going through said 'big' mountain -

and some horses in a cat swinging field -

It's clear that I need to come there and shoot trains and horses, then you come here so we both have something to compare it too.

So when you dropping by?

BTW, I have cats - I'm therefore justified in making cat swinging jokes - I've got a certificate and everything

We just leave the dead cats on the road and guys from the highway department come by and pick them up.

Here's a few pics I took in Silverton Colorado a couple of weeks ago. They still run this old steam engine from Duango to Silverton a couple of times every day. A fun, scenic but very sooty couple of hour ride each way through the beautiful Colorado mountains.

AND finally the conductor's daughter, waiting for the miners to come for a visit ;}

Love the symmetry of inside the train car -and the prostitute doll literally made me LOL!

So I guess that smoke just billows back through the train's open windows? I'd never considered that aspect of steam locomotive travel before.

Nice photos - it still looks like fun.
