Somehow the priority idea is nice .. otherwise the faith might go down if somebody is doing a lot but do not get a critique. |

Are there any qualifications to be in the CC. I have always thought that the CC members were the better photogs. I personally, except for trying to find the time, do not feel I am qualified.

Personally, I like the idea John just proposed. People who may not feel that they are quite ready to be "critical" of other's work may want to have their own submissions critiqued so that they can learn. If, however, CC members are getting all the priority those who may need it most are left without anything. I know I asked for a critique on one of my submissions and never got it. I don't plan to ask for another until I see that one ... and after this number of weeks, I don't expect I'll EVER see it. |

I am sorry Bob .. but I loked at the comments you left and I am sure you can leave comment on some other's work that would be helpfull.
Without trying .. you do not know.
Personnally , and becasue the critique club is not an 'elite photograph' thing (I am in it !!! or I was) hen I thing it's kind of natural that they have priority. It's not elite agains the other .. it's just 'willing to critique' people and I think it's nice to 'support' them b crtiquing their pictures first.

John,
This is an interesting concept - one which I can't decide on. In some ways it makes sense so that everyone has a better chance of getting a critique. At the same time though I think something has to be offered in return for providing service and the "virtual" guarantee of a critique is the best payment I can think of.
RMahan - I sent you a note. If you let me know which image I will post a critique like comment on it for you. As I explained, the queue gets reset each week - noone goes back through old queues.
On a positive note it looks like about 190 critiques left this week... I wonder if we can achieve this if we all pitch in? |

Lionelm - I appreciate your viewpoint but if a "newbie" (to DPC) can't get a critique in a challenge that ran in mid-February, I don't see the value or benefit of asking for it OR, for that matter, participating in it. It doesn't look like CC really has its act together in some respects. I don't see amything published about it. For example, has my request been "thrown away" since it's been so long? Will someone eventually get to it? Should I still be checking back to see if it has been done? Maybe I missed orientation day and someone would like to fill me in.
I guess I don't really have a STRONG objection to the "members" of CC having some priority (not really my call anyway, I'm just voicing an opinion and I grant that my opinion might be based upon faulty information) but I would think the CC members would want to critique a number of different photographers rather than the same ones over and over again and that's what this priority system would seem to do.
BTW, I sincerely mean the line of "Maybe ... someone would like to fill me in."
Bob

rmahan -- the system basically works like this:
You tick that box for your picture. After results are posted, all pictures checked for that challenge are posted in a "semi-random" order that are "assigned" randomly to CC members. Semi meaning that currently, CC members are first, then the rest. If it is not done by the next results posted, it is then "discarded" when the new results come in. I'm sorry you haven't gotten one; there's not much that can be done about it. Someone has offered to do it for you, and that is pretty generous of them, I think. As far as having our act together, when our pay is doubled, I am sure you will see improved results.
general audience -- to me a critique in turn for doing one is fair, but it really doesn't matter to me. Maybe let the CC member get one per week, and if they have a second picture, it is near the bottom somehow.
As far as the CC members being the better photogs. Ummm, maybe for the rest of them, but not for me!!! I do it because i enjoy spreading my opinion. I also like receiving them because I learn so much from them. I feel that my photography has improved since both giving and recieving CC critiques. |

Well .. the critique club is NOT a feature odf the site, John started that and peole joined in. That's why there is not really a heavy documentation on it. It's just people tyring to fdo their best. And I can promise you if you crotique even 4 a week .. you 're never going to have the impression to comment the same over and over a gain. And you are not going to ccomment good picture as well .. you get picture ... all over the range of scores ... so please do not thnk of it as being like the elite voting for the elite because it's not that at all .. really.
And, as well, you can always do the step yourself ... and give a detailed comment to other people .if you want you can for example comment a photo. I am sure that if you spend even 10 mn commenting a picture I am sure that will be beneficial. You can start with a 'framework' like soe people , including me do, that would give you a framework. Others are more by the feeling.
For example if it has been a long time I guess it's not going back in the queue.
ANd true as it's not a 'official buil in' feature , it's not easy to know. Usually people send you a PM to tell you they have done yours so then you know you can check.
The main thing is that, if I understand well, the peole organizing this got some help from the DPChallenge owners becasue they appreciate and like the approach and its spirit .. but it's still people doing it . because they want to do it.
And right now I am not critiquing that much , and like a lot of others I was .. very 'afraid' for the first one .. and then it was easier .. some people thanked me for it .. a few have been very upset (just 2) . And the way you should see it is that it's not gurus or elite people it's just photograph who are willing to try .. and once I understood that .. that it ws more .. like a long comment (or very long) and not a judgment or a full critique .. I was more at ease doing it.
Hope this help and put things in perspective. Maybe others would have explain better ( english is not my native language .. hou la la .. sacrebleu ;-) ) .. but ... that's what I think.
Just left a critique/comment for 'The Weakest Link'. Some people leave longer comments and some less. I did not 'overdo' it .. I did like I was used to do.
Good luck for this week if you submited !
Lionel

lionelm & sparky_mark - Thank you each for the comments you left about my entry. You both basically confirmed what I already knew. In addition, since I recently calibrated my monitor, I now think the image is, overall, too dark but that could just be my "artistic preference", too.
Also, thanks to all who explained CC for me. It's basically a very good idea. I'm still not convinced that giving priority to those who are doing the work is best for everyone who asks for a critique. I guess without knowledge or statistics on some key numbers it would be hard to see whether there are people being slighted on a regular basis.

I think we will probably leave the critique priority alone for now. I have a few requests to join the critique club so I'll get those people signed up and see what happens...
