I saw this guy today in Titusville waiting for the Shuttle to go up. Wasted effort though.

From the looks of the lens and the tripod, I hope he had a crew to help get the combination back to his car! Holy cow thats one long lens. Did you happen to ask about the details of the lens?

Look close, I think he even may have a teleconverter attached, I could be wrong...

I thought that too. Is that a 500? If so I think about 1/3 of that is a lens hood. Still, soooooooo sweet.

I thought the same thing when I looked at it, just cant be 100% sure of that.

I should have asked him about it but I was angry that we spent 5 hours waiting for the launch and they scrubbed it for storms 25 miles away. I just wanted to get home. |

Looks like to me it is a D2X with a Nikon 400mm 2.8 AF-S with the Nikkor TC-20E AF-I, AF-S Teleconverter turning the combo into a 800mm f/5.6D. Plus the crop factor = kick ass!
Approx. Total cost minus the tripod= $12,000.00 USD |

Almost cetain that it is the 500 F4 and becasue I see printing on the ring close to the camera I would bet it is a Nikon 1.4.
