My wife and I are planning a road trip for our one year anniversary. We live in Dallas, TX, and we don’t want to drive more than 10 hours. We will have about a week or so off. Do yall have any good ideasâ€Â¦if so lets hear’em.

We're doing a shorter trip than 10 hours but we're heading down through the hill country and over to Guadelupe State Park, Blue Hole, and Wonder World Cave this weekend. About a 5 hour drive there but it's going to be fun to get out in a new area for pictures...there are lots of interesting places nearby and/or along the way so I think there will be plenty to see.

We also considered a drive down through the piney woods to Beaumont and back but since the kids saw the ocean last year we thought tubing might be better this year.

There's also Palo Duro up in the panhandle, or go over to Big Bend... both are incredibly scenic once you get there.

Wherever y'all go, have fun while you're there and happy anniversary! :)

myself, i'd like to visit new mexico... i flew to phoenix a few weeks ago and enjoyed the view so much from the plane that i wish i could have driven there... but i'm not sure you'd make it to NM in 10 hours. :)

Well that is where I proposed. So we were looking for something a bit different and OUT of Texas...thanks anyways Laurie. One that we thought about was Missouri, but not for sure.
Keep'em coming please.

Well thanks...and I don't know if that is what happens all the time in NM...but might be a good place to try your luck.

Maybe I should post this during the day when more members of the places that might give suggestions for our trip would be awake...did any of that make sense?

How far west will 10 hours get you and what time of year will you be making the venture?

How about New Orleans?

Hop Interstate 35 North and drive for 10 hours. See where you wind up and then make the best of it.

Sounds good on paper...but want to make sure we have something to do...even though it sounds like an adventure...if we had a month that would be an awesome way to spend it...where ever the wind takes us.

We kind-a want to figure it out so we can book hotel and plan what to do and so forth.

Go to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. I was there 2 weeks ago and it was the most amazing place I've ever seen. You won't regret it.

In 10 hours, you could probably reach Shreveport, or maybe Memphis.

Try this: //www.shreveport-bossier.org/

Get there in about 6 or so I believe...parents go quite often to gamble.

Since you live just south of Route 66 I would plan a historical tour. I have always wanted to travel the old route 66 and take pictures. Here is a site that tells about it and of course you could google it.

535 miles, 9 hours gets you to Lake of the Ozarks. Nice country up there...

And where exactly is that...sounds very nice

Sorry. Google it is best; Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. Beautiful hill country, wildly popular tourist destination, or it used to be anyway. I haven't been there in over 20 years. To some extent it may have remained relatively quaint, like Cape Cod has, but I don't really know. Maybe someone else does. I loved it when I was there, beautiful country and a BIG freaking lake too. Sort of the Midwestern equivalent of Tahoe, you might say...

Anybody live by there than can attest to what Bear is talking about...not that I don't believe him...haha. Would love to meet up with a fellow DPC'er somewhere to show me some nice local shots...or I guess I can wonder around...pretty good at that.

We have done Wichita Falls to Denver in 10hrs. LOTS to do in Denver and from Denver you can be in the Rocky Mountains in an hour.

edit: And it is MUCH different than Texas ;o)

All I know is that during Spring Break it fills up with "Good Girls Gone Wild."

Edit: Oh yea, and what Robert said. It is a nice place.
