I don't understand this. The whole site is database related, and only members can vote. If we are so worry about trolls, why can't we find them out, and ask some questions... like, why they gave 1 or 2 the a ribbon winning photo ? What was their view on those pictures to give that low points ?
You know administrator has all the tracks of everyone who votes to what...
I know anyone has rights to vote anything he or she wants... but if we call some people trolls, we also think they are doing things on purpose and they probably need to be exposed somehow.
Hmmm! (Thinking) |

from all the low averages i've seen in this thread, could i dare hope to see this one in the top 20? 10, perhaps?

There is nothing like starting the day with a negative comment from someone with an average vote cast of 3.6997.

I rarely take issue with comments but I got one that actually says "Subject needs to be in better focus." Am I insane for finding this just slightly odd in a MOTION BLUR challenge? ::blink::

I'd bet a Top 20 wouldn't be unreasonable...

I get what you're saying, but I think there are several entries that are just blurry and not a good exapmple of motion blur, even if the blurriness is caused my motion.
In most instances an image needs a focal point, even if it is in motion. There are several excellent examples of this in the challenge. There are also several that are just blurry.

Yeah but I suppose if you were "zooming on a stationary subject" a total blur might not be optimal...? |

Mines currently at 6.5 something, but the problem is... I really am not sure I LIKE this image, and I'd really prefer NOT to have it on my profile page for eternity, so I'm sort of hoping the score will drop a bit between now and next Sunday.
Why do all the images I like score horribly, and the ones I don't really care for do well???

This is my (personally opinion) best picture I have ever submitted.
And it is so funny to have comments where people either say "I hate it" or "I love it". The best part for me is I love the picture and I love the "I love it" comments and I do not care about the score so much.
It is now in 5.4444 after about 100 votes.

Hi. I've made a few comments like that. My thinking is that, usually, something needs to be in focus. In some pics, there's something moving that's blurry in front of a sharp background. In others, there are subjects that are sharp while the background blurs. Either one works, and I've voted high for both types.
But when both the subject and background are blurry, my eye has nowhere to land. It can still work, particularly as abstract arta, and I've also given high marks to those. But I have to decide whether that was the point.

I'd look at it as a curve. In grad school, we had one very tough professor. He was fair, though. And he taught us a lot.
So my question is: was the comment specific enough to give you something to think about, even if you rejected it? |

lots of comments... i'm kind of surprised, with all the possitive comments, that no one has hit the favorite button...
not a complaint, mind you... just an observation.

I am guilty of a comment like this:
IMO the Motion Blur should be seperated from something that is not moving.
And this is my opinion and therefore I say it. My average vote cast is 4.8717. I don't know why because I feel that I usually don't rate low.
I received a comment about my picture that it says it has no motion in it!! But there is and others see it quite well.

Did you read the description?
Description: Intentional motion blur is an effect that can be achieved by zooming on a stationary subject, panning a moving subject, using long exposure, etc. Search for subjects that will be enhanced by this treatment.
So panning does meet the challenge and it is motion blur. Just like zooming in on stuff, long exposures of waterfalls etc etc etc.
