I stumbled across this interesting photo competition in the 2006 Portfolio Contest Awards edition of B&W Magazine...
CDS/Honickman First Book Prize
This particular competition seems to 'fit' with a lot of what I do. It stresses 'series' work, which I think is a majorly important concept in photography...

Oh yeah - I got a pamphlet for this at the national SPE conference and was interested. Unfortunately, my largest cohesive body of work is only 20 images. They ask for 40 images submission, 70-80 to eventually be published. I purchased the first book they published about fire - its really cool!! |

I have a couple collections that are large enough to use for this contest, but I'm concerned that they may be too 'local' to generate interest in a contest like this. Since they are going to publish a book of the winner's work, I'm fairly confident that they would like to have a subject content that would be universally appealing.

I don't think your work is any less "universally appealing" than the current winner, "The Suburban West"...

I have two collections that I can pull from for this but I don't know which one to use...
MY TOWN
1000 FACES
I could potentially use something from:
A DAY AT THE RACES
That stuff was all shot in one day at the race track...

damn my short attention span. i don't think i've ever taken more than ten pictures in one 'series' :D
edit: now that i look through some of my stuff, mostly the film prints, maybe i can gather some stuff together for this...i am certain i don't have a chance to win, but maybe the attempt will be good for me.

I like this one the best, for me at least. It's interesting to look at and is multi-faceted. The race track one is ok but I think would have an even narrower audience. JMO.
Good luck!
edit to correct the link I used. Sorry for posting the wrong one. :(

I like the My Town series of shots... especially the one of the gas prices. :P

I'm with the 100 Faces group. I think it has the widest appeal.
