Can you tell me what I should have or could have done in CS to make this photo look better.

Thanks

To be totally honest I prefer the original and dont think there is too much you need to do to it. Maybe a little levels but his/her eyes are closed so there isnt much else to see. Your edited version just kills the texture the blanket with way overexposed white.

yeah it looks like you tried to use the "brightness" layer adjustment tool instead of levels or curves. The original is better. You need to use levels and then some curves to really make that picture pop.

Thank you both! I will try that and repost.

I understand that you were trying to bring out the detail in the dog's fur however, in doing so have totally blown out the blanket.

Having the dog lie on a darker coloured blanket would help with getting the exposure correct.

I just popped your original into CS2. Under Image->Adjustments->Shadow/Highlight, select to show more options and set them top to bottom 30,20,30,30,20,30,20,0. I think it looks pretty good. It doesn' blow out the blanket, and it brightens up the puppy. You can play with those settings of course. Those are just my defaults and they seem to work nicely.

Thanks Larry! I tried what larry suggested and I also tried to make it Sepia. Let me know what you think now. Thanks again.
