I can't find a place where Glass was talked about but I have a question. I just thought of this this morning and was wondering about the literal arts rule thing.
If you take a shot of a church stained glass window just of itself without the building then isn't that breaking the literal arts rule unless you add something to it? I just seem to think that without being able to take some kinds of glass shots that there may be a lot who want to do this cathedral or church window glass thing and frame it just around the window itself. I want to know if that will be accepted or not before I vote.

Since statues are ok I'd thing stained glass windows are ok too since they're 3-d and there's the lighting aspect to take into consideration. But I'd ask SC just to make sure.

as to the literal art rule...I take a harder stand on it than the SC seems to - if you have some type of interpreation of it, be it angle, lighting, etc then you're probably OK.
I had a macro of money kicked out once as they considered money to be art. Well, paper money. Coin money is not art...
And they have said more than once that including a BG works as interpretation, even it is an outside work of art and you show the whole thing - you have to show a BG of some kind if it's outside after all...
So i avoid the whole art thing completely unless its very abstrant and 3 dimensional and outside.

That is true. The lighting would make the difference I think.
Site council will probably see this post. Maybe I should have asked in private though now that I think of it. I may have stepped on the shoes of someone who wants to enter a photo like this. Ooooops.
I have a photo entered in the other exclusive, but I may go with glass (but not a stained glass window :). I am just not sure how to be "universal" in a superstition/urban legend and I think that will hurt. I don't want to be duplicated either and the only one I have I want to use I am sure will be duplicated. The other four I had in mind will be unknown to most in the world. So it is hard to choose. I hate shooting glass but maybe I can come up with something creative. :)

OK, I did. I guess I didn't think of stained glass as an art per se but I can see it now. I can't think of many instances where this rule would be broken. Photographers constantly make artistic decisions for lighting, composition, etc. hmm, interesting.

This is an interesting discussion. My first thought was no, it wouldn't be illegal, because of lighting, etc.
But, when you think about it, if I decide to take a photo of one of my own old photos to enter into a challenge, I would have to make a few lighting decisions also and decide how to crop it, etc.
I'm indecisive about this one. I suppose SC would have to debate it also.

That's OK, i didn't think of money as art either. Hence the warning on interpretation. Mine was a small part of a $5 bill, macro in nature. Not the whole 'artwork' and not 'a literal representation' IMO, but a bit mroe abstract. Apparently 2 dimensional was the issue.

Stained Glass is a very detailed and delicate art. I had the luxury of knowing a great artist who also does her art in stained glass. She did very well for herself and every piece was a masterpiece.
