Welcome Candice :-) Don't be afraid to jump in and vote, comment, and enter challenges. It can all be quite educational, inspiring and just enjoyable to see and study all the awesome pics that people around here produce. I'm sure you'll find this to be a great site, and the folks are generally quite friendly and extremely helpful, and possibly a bit quirky at times :-P Already some great bits of advice here. Have you got a woody yet? Woody shots always do REAL well in challenges (HA!) If you see any smoke, don't worry, that's just Art ROFLMAO burning somebody's village!
ps- oh and remember...Guitar shots ROCK!

Welcome to DPC, Candice. I'm usually pretty quiet and don't post much, but my kind, friendly nature compels me to help acclamate the newcomers. I have gathered some recommended reading for you...

the best advice would be to run.. as fast as you can... as far away as possible, but if you can't do that, just dont get adicted to the update button :)
but seriously, have fun, photography is a great hobby and you can learn so much from the people here. and be sure to take to heart what people say about your photo's, most of the time they kno what they're talking about.

I'm sorry you had to see that. :( Just shows you photography is not just about flowers and butterflies - it can be horrific and traumatic as well. Use a mild soap when you wash your eyes out. :)

Oh Art! Now I know not to drink coffee while reading in the forums!! Im not that easily run away though, takes more than cheese and bootie to do that to me. Hrmmm. Ohh and Cheeseman, I was stoked to see that Got Cheese is avail as a print. I was going to buy one to put over my fireplace, except the prints dont come in a big enough size...and I dont have a fireplace. *sigh*

I agree. we (jaded_youth is my wife) never knew how many great photo ops there were in the tampa bay area untill we got transfered to the middle of nowhere and were reduced to taking pictures of the same run down bulidings at different angles. so keep those florida pics coming.

You will enjoy this. I have learned heaps since I logged on to this site. Although it really doesn't show in my scores. I believe my photos have improved. Not so much my submissions for challenges but all the pictures I take of my kids and pets etc. Ive learned alot about DOF and Lens Choices for certain shots effects etc. I find myself in Auto Mode much less now and always trying to make the shot look a bit better.
Ive been working with adobe photoshop for about 10 years for my old job and current business so editing photos is a piece of cake. However for these contests I am trying very hard to keep the editing to a minimum and produce the perfection with the camera. I am getting closer but have some big hills ahead of me still. If you hang around here long enough you will learn thats for certain. You will also get very stressed out. But it is a good time and interesting to find out how other people view your work and how many different ways it can actually be viewed.

Welcome!
I like your photos. You have a good eye & a good sense of composition. My advice is to only listen to comments that make sense to you, and don't shoot for high scores or you'll end up with a bunch of photos of wineglasses in front of computer screens.

Just a tip, don't talk to that Wavelength dude, he stinks like fotomann's cheese doesn't. His wife, brizmama, is pretty cool though.
