Funny to note the different tastes of the photographers here. In the symmetry contest, I've got comments like "Bad focus" right under comments like "I like the focus." I get comments like "I like the sepia" right under "Sepia doesn't work for this shot." I guess with some things, in the end, the only thing that matters is what I think is good. |

That is exactly what matters. It's the individual tastes that matter. |

Think that's funny? I just got a comment on my symmetry entry, saying that my shot showed exact reflection, but not much symmetry.

I'd mark comment was helpful just to add to the mental instability around here.

I did mark the comment as helpful, just to avoid being accused of not marking it as helpful out of spite, because it didn't say OOOOH PRETTY!!

funny indeed. i have comments that say it's a nice picture but not really symmetrical and others that say it's exactly the usage of symmetry the challenge called for. who knows...i mark anything longer than "nice" as helpful.

What about ´´Very Nice``?
Seems discriminatory to me if you mark ´´Very Nice`` as helpful, but not ´´Nice``. Some people might not know how to spell ´´Very`` :)

I mark every comment as helpful which gives a specific reason why he/she does or does not like the photo.
So only "nice" is not a helpful comment but "nice colour" would be :)

Let's say Jmsetzler gives you a comment that says "very nice" and I give you a comment that says the same thing. Will you mark his and not mine? Just a thought.
If I go into your profile and look at your pictures and find that two comments are the same and you have clicked one as useful and not the other then I would say you are playing favorites. That is the problem I had with hoogie. But I didn't realize he didn't know what the helpful boxes were for.
Just remember to do it your way and make sure you do it fair.

I mark all the comments as helpful. It means I read the comment, and thank you for taking time to comment.

I guess this is the case for many people.
As I do CC comments I see that many people write me back that they found my comment helpful. But I recently discovered that my last "helpful" CC comment was in January... I'm unsure if I should ask the other people what was wrong with my comment. I mean coming back later and asking them why they didn't check that box could sound a bit arrogant.

I have had a lot of helpful comments for my symmetry entry that I really appreciate. Some good constructive critisizm too, which I also appreciate! This was my first DPChallenge entry and the comments have been motivating and confidence building. That is very helpful! I keep wanting to reply to the comments thanking the commenters. So thanks SO MUCH to all of you who take the time to do that!

What I don't get is that I have more than triple the amount of comments for this challenge than the previous one, yet my score is lower. Most of the comments are positive too. Anyone else experience this. THis is only my 2nd challenge. |

It's hard to say KRob. It happens and will happen in the reverse also. I don't think there is a formula to figure it ahead of time. If they hate it many will say so or few will. If they love it many will say so and or few will give you congrats. ?? Hard to tell.

Weird! Oh well, I guess the score really doesn't matter anyway. I am kind of proud that more than half of my comments ask me how I took the picture and others want a "How'd They Do That" toutorial. I'll have to work on that this weekend. |
