The wildflowers are blooming, the waterfalls are gushing, the elk are out to view, as well as some really good fishing, hiking, rock climbing, caving, and canoeing being available (for the more adventuresome) in the AR Ozarks right now. There are some great shots to be had here right now, if you are interested in outdoor shooting. If anyone is interested in meeting in NW AR in the Buffalo River National Park some weekend, I'm up for it. Would love to get together with some other DPC'rs sometime..
Here is a link to a pretty famous photographer and author from the area. His journals all have great photos in them, and he also sells photo-books and photos from the area which you can preview online.

Another link to the area (labeled the most spectacular of the Ozark Mountains:

Hawksbill Crag
View of the Buffalo National River Valley
Tunnel Cave Falls (one of more than 130 in this area of the state)
I know many of you may not be close to this area, but if we have a few members that are driving distance from NW AR, it might be worth the trip!!

We will be up there in later April for a week (20-26th), but also can come up on a different weekend if people want to join in. The best weekends for wildflower shots and waterfall shots are the next three in this month.

Here are a few shots I took a little over a week ago. Have more to add, but not the time to resize them and upload them right now. Almost all of these are straight from the camera except the resize.

Sounds like a great idea to me! I've been thinking of getting up north for some photos here in the next few weeks. The redbuds should be in bloom soon!
I'd love to get together but my schedule is a bit awkward. I typically work Tues-Sat and so my off days are Sun and Mon. But, that does leave me open for a Sunday trip! Do you have a particular area in mind?

See below for the dates I will be there. Redbuds are already blooming, adn dogwoods are coming on soon. I also have found some trout lillies at the Richland Creek area. The best place to have "base camp" would be Ponca or Jasper. It's the upper Buffalo River area, if you do a search for it you should find lots of info, also at the NEwton County CC site listed below. We usually stay at Dogwood Springs in Jasper, but there's also camping on the river (cheap and basic) and cabins in the area (pricey but with great views of the Ozarks and wildlife).

You might want to spend the night there... it's a curvy drive from anywhere in the state.

I have that second picture (buffalo river) on my wall.
I live in Fayetteville, but probably couldn't get down there. Good luck. |

Hey guys, I will be here on the 18th and 19th. //www.cloudland.net/workshop.html. I have spent almost every weekend since December hiking in these areas. The 20th should be prime for photos. Im sure that my wife and I can make it. We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Jasper one weekend for like $65.
How many people can make it? And where to? I can make some sugestions if I can get an idea of what kind of area we want. How far do we want to hike if any and that kinda thing.

Lucky you, I wish I could afford that workshop. I can hike a mile to three if it's not real rough terrain... Am fifty and definitely not in the best shape but have been getting ready for our trip up there by walking at noon. Ponca might be the best place to meet, as it seems more of a hub than Jasper.
You know a lot more about the trails than I. Maybe you can share some areas that Tim's showing you. I have the waterfall book, and can be a guide for that part.

Well we can do the Lost Valley trail(eden falls 2.3m) which is easy but im sure you have been there. One of my favorite ones was Broadwater Hollow(more of a drive in the woods than a hike). I took this one looking for Liles Falls. //www.pbase.com/image/11162585
I will do Hawksbill Crag at some point, its like 3 miles but might be up and down.
The only place I know for sure that Tim Ernst will be takeing us is Kings River Falls area. It doesnt look that great by the book photo but he rates it highly.
Those are just some ideas. Im open to anywhere.

OK, Now all we got to do is decide exactly when and where to meet up, and what we would like to do...
Kandyj, you say you have Tim's Waterfall guide, is there an easily accessable area where we can take in a few of those?

I do have that book. Maybe a few days before the trip we can make final plans.
