I'm a somewhat critical movie-watcher (Film and Video major) but there have been some excellent movies that have made it into the mainstream, so if you have time to take a break from all of the fine pieces of cinema listed elsewhere in this thread, check out these:

The Weatherman
Jarhead
Munich
Goodnight and Goodluck
Syriana

Agreed, I couldn't even sit through 20mins of it. Good thing I borrowed it from a friend and didn't buy it or go see it in a theater.

Memoirs of a Geisha - maybe this is supposed to be a "chick" flick but it even sucks at that.

We just watched "The Squid and the Whale".

Dang that movie was aweful.

The Notebook. I know people are going to disagree but man, I thought that movie was just awful.

Loved the books, enjoyed the movie.

"Closer" made me want to slap all of them
All the "Rocky" movies except the first one
Almost any movie starring, written, directed, and produced by the same person.
Tried to get through "Date Movie" last weekend. Had to turn it off.

That's why I said "Almost". Woody Allen has been pretty successful too.

I am a big fan of Charlie Chaplin both on and off the screen. Movies in those days were hardly "written" in the modern sense though.

Usually when all the major credits are the same person, that means no one else would agree to work on it.

i agree hitchhiker was good.

it's a very divided movie. you either like it or don't, no ok's. it's a quirky movie based on a quirky book; most people who haven't read the book (or care to) will not like it.

Perhaps the epitome of this genre is Bambi Meets Godzilla ...

Two words: Troma Films! So bad they are works of genius!
06/20/2006 05:18:40 PM · #91
Hell yeah! I love sergeant kabukiman!
You also have to check out 'Bad taste' and 'Braindead', peter jacksons (LOTR) first films. They are GENIUS!!! I've seen them so many times now, but the real pleasure is subjecting someone new to them and seeing their reaction, 'Braindead' can be a real ordeal!

The Others sucked arse. The Village was horribly stoooopid. When these movie people try to show they are deep, it seems they only show how shallow thier heads really are.

Somehow, I ended up with two copies of The Others and the prices that movie was selling at on E-bay wasn't worth the listing fees. I think I ended up letting a friend permanently borrow it.

The Village: Thank god I borrowed that POS. I do wish lawyers would start filing class action suits against its directors and producers for wasting the time and money of movie watchers.

Oh, as long as we're discussing M. Night, let's add Signs to the list of completely wretched movies.

That's another one I was trying to think of! On my list of all time worst. Personally, I think M. Night Shyamalan is a one hit wonder with 6th Sense.

Yeah there were some gross parts but it had great character development. You probably wouldn't like "You, Me, and Everyone we Know"

I didn't think The Village was too bad (although I seem to be quite alone in that opinion) but Unbreakable certainly was no gift to humanity.

Aaaagh! I forgot about that one also. Hollywood should have a three strikes rule.
