I am looking to replace my tripod with something much better. I bought my current one about 15 years ago and it has served me well, but its starting to show its age. What would be a really nice replacement for it?

depends on how much you want to spend.

the Manfrotto/Bogen 055 is a great tripod, so is the Manfrotto/Bogen CarbonOne

and if you got lots of cash you could get a Gitzo, just any Gitzo :)

i just got a gitzo g2220... lovely little tripod. it ate up all my budget, so i got just a bogen mini ballhead to go on top of it instead of the gitzo g1275m that i wanted, but oh well...

I'm very happy with my Bogen/Manfrotto 3021BPRO tripod. It's $150 new and you can pick whatever head you like with it.

if you are low on funds or just dont wanna spend the money I have this one DynaTran AT 877BL Professional Tripod from amvona. They also have a store on ebay where you can get much better prices. This is the best tripod I have owned and its Manfrotto quality very well built. I got mine off fredmiranda's website in thier buy/sell forum for $75 bucks.

Really really good tripod, very sturdy and strong.

If I were a tripod, I would worry about the onset of winter

The cold causes shrinkage and makes me lean forwards.
:)

Well i would be one of those tripods that has 2 x 30 inch legs and a third 12 inch leg for balance for getting into those awkward places and positions.
