Can you believe that a ref like that was allowed to officiate a World Cup match?

disgraceful....but the good thing is the US looked very solid and should beat Ghana. Suddenly, I am a HUGE Italia fan. if they beat the Czech Republic and we win, we advance........
....
....
probably against Brazil though.

With the way Ghana played today, there are no guarantees on anything!

I don't know... Ghana's ball technique looked scary to me today... They handle the ball incredibly...
USA has to shot the ball more often front of the box.
Ref was horrible, I think he has to be fined just like players.
Good luck to USA next round... difficult, but possible ;)

i would never guarantee a US World Cup match. However, if we played like today, with a few solid finishes, we should pull thru...

It was reported after the game that the horrible ref was previously not allowed to ref in the World Cup due to his "inconsistencies".
This guy was known to be a poor ref and allowed in the World Cup of all venues! |

Oh dear! If you're interested only in sports that Scotland & Canada are good at you must have a lot of spare time on your hands. |

No kidding. I am very curious to see if he is allowed to officiate any more matches this World Cup.

I agree that the ref was abusive in his power, but you have to admit, the commentators (on abc) were really tearing him up! You almost have to feel sorry for the poor fool. I know that I couldn't have done any better...

Maybe that's why you are not a World Cup ref and why he shouldn't be.
Yeah, he's a poor fool but I don't feel the least bit sorry for him. I am a compassionate person, but this guy has been shown previously what his limitations are and he allowed himself to be placed in a position where once again, they were exceeded.
This isn't the first time that he has been documented as inconsistent (not to "tear him up") and I'd bet it's not the tenth time that he is aware of himself being inconsistent. I think that even he knows that he stinks as a referee. That second and third red card were totally uncalled for and the commentators having the benefit of instant replay were in the perfect position to comment as they did.
And it didn't take instant replay to see that the second red card (especially) was not justified.
I couldn't have done any better either - - - (edit..On second thought, yes I could have), but if I was needed as a ref for my son's soccer game then I would help out. But this is the WORLD CUP! I don't think that World Cup soccer is that desperate for quality refs and they shouldn't have compromised considering this guy's record.
edit to change whether or not I could have done better

Disclaimer: I am in NO WAY defending the ref
However, FIFA has asked the refs to clamp down on nasty tackles, bad fouls, etc. etc. The players on both teams came out with a lot of energy, and for whatever reason, the ref decided a lot of them we're worthy of his calls.
Anyways, this was just to point out that FIFA has asked the refs to be more adament about calling fouls.
I'd also say there have been some refs who have been quite terrible in prior games as well. If this ref was THE worst so far is debatable, but in EVERY world cup there has ALWAYS been bad refs, bad calls, and undesirable outcomes
As I said, I'm NOT defending him, I'm just making some observations

No way, you got the wrong game. We are talking about the World Cup game that played today between the USA and Italy. |

The red card for the elbow into McBride was dead on.
The red card for the two footed challenge was good as well.
I didn't see the third which brought the USA to 9 men. |

The disallowed goal was a fine call, but the second and third red cards were not justified.
The second red card was the ref playing a part in the game that he shouldn't have been playing. He is not supposed to be in the position to try to "even out the teams" when one of them goes a man short due to a foul worthy of ejecting a player. |

With that reasoning why wasn't there a fourth red card, just to 'even out the teams'? |

How far do you think even the ref thinks he can go? I've seen the "evening of the teams" before, but never twice in one game. |

it was justified (ok i only saw the 1 and the second red cards) but i saw it it was a very mad takle to the foot man what the... and the second was because to yellows... ok |

Do you think that this doesn't happen?
Sometimes it happens with red cards, but most often it happens with penalty shots. |

Maybe in the MLS, but that's the American game.
Most games I've seen in the European leagues, if there's a red card, there's only 1.
Just to add, in this game there were a lot of shoddy tackles right from the get go.
