I need a program thats easy to use and will make good DVD slideshows, I want quality output, lots of transitions, motions, etc.
They (customer) are providing the photos on a CD already edited and their own music..
This is for a job I got offered, I just have to beat $200.00 that they got qouted from a business.
I was thinking of charging $175.00

| I really like ProShow Gold but that might be more than you're looking to pay if this is a one time thing. |

I was looking at that one--
They claim to have a fully functional 15 day trial..

I have Pinnacle Studio 10 and have owned several previous versions.
In theory, this is a fantastic program for video footage and slideshows.
It lets you do soooo much, I love nearly everything about it.
Only thing I don't like is that it is buggy - and has been with every version. Sometimes I think it must be my fault, but I have heard a few other reports to that effect, too.
With buggy I mean it freezes up, or does something odd that it REALLY shouldn't do.
Perhaps it IS my fault, but I'd sure like to know how to fix it.
Despite the problems I have with it, there is still nothing else quite like it. |

You might want to check it out then. Tons of transitions, really easy to sync up to music, etc. I think it's great. |

It's not just you. I have it, used it 3-4 times, and ended up going back to my original NERO program. My Pinnacle has locked up on me more than I want to discuss...lost entire slideshow twice with it. The bugs are a problem for everyone so I understand. The Nero program works great for me; that is a big part of what I do for my business. It is easy to work with, good transitions(EVEN THO i LIKE THE ABUNDANCE OF THEM IN pINNACLE). JUST MY 2CENTS WORTH. |

Thanks for that tip! I'll look into updating my Nero, I don't think my version 5 is quite up to it. |

I've tried a lot of them, but my two favorites are Nero and MemoriesOnTV. Nero has fixed a lot of their problems with the last few releases.

I am trying photoshow pro--
MK-- one question, there is a great "transition" menu, but the motions seems like you either have to design them yourself, or just use randomize, is there no "Motion" selections?

It is a fully functional trial.......but it leaves a big banner across your images until you purchase the program.
By the way it is quite a good slide show software. |

in between your photos there should be an icon that looks like a AB with two different shades.
Click that then you have tons of transitions to chose from.

Yeah I got that one figured, its the motions I was talking about "The Ken Burns Effect" Pan/zoom, etc..
There are no presets I can find for motion, just do it yourself or randomize...
Sidenote.
I checked out that memoriesontv one, and it seems choppy to me btw..

| Hrm...I've never actually used motions but yes, it looks like you're correct, there are no preset ones. There are instructions in the help section on how to draw the different sorts, though. |

ProShow Gold allows you to match previous or next in your motions.

Late to the party, but I use MemoriesOnTV
//www.codejam.com/
It's really quite automatic, including the Ken Burns Effect.

Nice job!
Not a comment on yours because it worked fine, but to discuss technique in general: Have you ever seen a TV documentary that shows slides and uses all those fancy transition effects in one show? Personally, I use almost exclusively fade-out/fade ing (replacement fade), along with the Ken Burns effect, I think it produces a professional, tv like video, where the pictures are the main focus. Some transitions are fine, but to me the effectiveness is inversely related to the number of different transitions inserted. Just my opinion!

I totally agree, I think less is more --- The star
transitions do noone any good (Unless they ask)-- I think a simple fade has the most impact.
