I have a solo show coming up the first week of august, and this is my first since going digital. thus, someone else will be printing my images for the first time.
I live in nova scotia, canada, and there is only one lab that does larger than 8x10. they do it well, but each print costs $15. i have about 40 to do. with framing, that's bank loan territory...
so, my question is, what do people feel about online printers? are DPC prints exhibition quality? if not, are there any other reccomendations? are there any in canada? how well do the prints match what you want?
any help on this will be greatly apreciated!

The company DPC uses is excellent in my opinion. I ordered a 16 X 20 of one of my images and I thnink it rocked.

so far costco (in Canada) only does 8x10 or 8x12
i looked at the US ones but theones that would ship to Canada were $$ for shipping ...
(i'm curious if any one has had good experiance as well) |

another question - does anyone know how much an 11x14 print of your own work costs through DPC? it's not on the site or the help section (unless i just haven't found it yet).

Have you looked at mpix and myphotopipe? Both are dot coms and do great work. I have no idea about shipping, though.

MPIX is what I use and shipping usually runs in the 3-5 dollar range, but they package them for a war. I really recomend them good to deal with. I have not tried dp yet, but I am sure that I will soon. |

First of all, I am with myphotopipe.com but hopefully my post errs on the side of helpful. We have some experience shipping to Canada and, in a nutshell, it can be sketchy. First of all, do not use USPS. Some packages are held up by customs, others get hit for the VAT (?) tax but either way USPS shipping often takes as many as 10 days. What does work is UPS Second Day. For whatever reason, UPS gets through so, not only can you save considerably money if you order prints online but you should also receive them in a fairly timely manner, too. Hope that's useful. Try this website here
They are absed in Montreal, and who I use. I know they ship, but I have no idea how much it would be to Nova Scotia. You can always call or email to find out.
I've been very happy with their service, and they print on archival Fuji paper.
Good luck with your show!

doug, I'd like to order a 10x10 black and white print from myphotopipe but I'm kinda worried about the shipping cost using UPS to Montreal. Do you have any idea how much it would cost?
I've used Lozeau before, and they overcharge imo.
//www.photoservice.ca/prix_lab.pdf would be a better place for digital printing in Montreal. Right now they have a special on digital prints. 8*12 is like 1.50$CAN ! |

Why don't you get your own printer? Wouldn't it be cheaper for you than to outsource your printing, in the long run?

Ahh, I've used photoservice (I'm assuming the one in Old Montreal?) as well, and would recommend them as well. I believe they use a different paper and printer than Lozeau. My personal preference is Lozeau, though. That's just me

AFAIK Costco only prints up to 12x18 in-store; the 16x20 and 20x30 are handled by Snapfish (now an HP subsidiary), which handles Costco's front-end ordering system. If you have one printed at Costco, you could arrange for someone to pick them up in the store and ship to you -- possibly cheaper than what they'd charge.
At my Costco (Concord, California) a 12x18 is $2.99 USD plus about 9% sales tax.
How big are your print files on average? |

I *love* Mpix! You get *exactly* what you want - true color, quality paper which is copyright stamped, etc. I also think the print price is extremely reasonable! Standard shipping at $4.95 can take up to 10 business days. I placed an overnight order (at $9.95 for shipping) last Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PM and had it at my front door the NEXT DAY at 1:30 PM. I think they are *fantastic* to deal with! |

I'll second MPIX.com, completely satisfied with every single aspect. Canadian shipping is $14.95, so make it count.
Try their Mettalic paper for landscapes. Oh, sooo sweet.

I really like smugmug's quality. They host my website and do most of my printing. I especially love the Lustre paper.
An 11x14 from smugmug is $6.25, or $5.49 if you go with matte or glossy instead.
If you decide to give them a try, you can save $5 when you sign up by using this coupon: Yi9EsaJKWupHM
