A fie on you! Take a look at my last challenge entry Expired Tags and note the discrepancy between those with and those without cameras. Almost 2 points! Luckily, there werent that many of them that looked at my photo :) Anyone else have such a wide discrepancy?

A bit over 1 point difference.. Not quite as bad, but almost a 20% difference!

Avg (camera): 6.505
Avg (no camera): 5.375

Hmmm, don't know which picture it was, because it has been a while, but I had one that had a huge discrepancy. The people without cameras pulled my score up tremendously. Actually, that has happened a couple of times. Oh well. Maybe I'm jsut weird.

I've seen way over 2.0 disccrepancies in previous challenges. Nothing to worry about...

I loved your photo of "Expired Tags" by the way. I gave it an 8, I think. It's tricky trying to please the non-camera users and the experienced photographers as well. I've been watching in the wings for some time and have finally taken the plunge and submitted a photo for the symmetry challenge. We'll see how it goes! : )

Good Luck Sage -

Just to give you a little help with the site, if you look at a picture you voted on, your score will show up as the red bar (rather than blue) of the number you gave it.

Incidentally, didnt there used to be a "Average Score of Commenters"?

If you want to see a huge discrepancy...Look at our winners results

The thing is..this could be one voter to less than 10. So I am not sure how much of a difference it makes.

My experience has been that often the "Votes from those without camera's" is often a round number. This suggests a very small number of people without camera's voting... Perhaps 4 or something equally small. The problem here is that the number isn't significantly accurate to take much notice of.

Personally, I've noticed those without camera's often vote a little harder than those with, and they like the literal interpretation of the challenges, rather than the artistic ones. That's fine though - they aren't out to get you, they're just looking at the photo's differently.

Good luck next time - but please don't feel alone. Non-camera voters have always been a bit harder on my images as well.

I just looked back and most weeks the difference is very little but the week of the from above challenge there was a noticable difference. This is the scoring difference....

Avg (all users): 4.878
Avg (camera): 4.904
Avg (no camera): 2.500

And this is the photo....
//dpchallenge.com/image.php/i/14823

Last weeks scores though were within a .2 of each other.

Ah - but why do you display your photos? Do you intend to sell them? Only to people with cameras? SHow them only to relatives with cameras? Like it or not, how the people who do NOT know what goes into a photograph see your picture is also a useful piece of learning information.

I agree with Ellen (emorgan49). I'm kind of bummed when I see the differences, too, but if photography is only for photographers...

Cool, thanks for the tip!
