Maybe this already exists in some form on the site and I don't know it, but what about a simple percentile ranking by average vote received? This would be slightly different from the average of percentiles for all challenges for the same member, and would probably be a simpler computation. |

Overall I'm at 48%. Not so hot.
But the more interesting statistic is first five vs. last five. I only have 15 challenges to my name, but here's that one:
1st five: 51%
last five: 68%
The first five is largely skewed by a random high placer, and the last are marked by more consistency. I didn't need the numbers to know that I've improved in just the roughly two months that I've been here, but it's nice to see the numbers agreeing. :-)

These old threads trip me out when they get resurrected.
I've managed to go from 84.7% to 84.8% in the meantime. Woo hoo!

As you can see, a vast improvement. But, I used to submit anything and everything. Now I only submit what I like. Learning how to edit helps too. :) |

Missing in this discussion is the fact that the statistic you're referring to is not a percent (which is a measure of quantity) but a percentile, which is a measure of rank or placement within a series (x/100). Percents can be averaged (and otherwise statistically manipulated), while percentiles cannot. E.g., "I got a 75% on this math test," and "my score on the math test was at the 75th %ile" are two very different statements that say entirely different things about your performance on the test.
IMO, averaging your percentile from all your combined challenges is much less meaningful statistically than saying your average score over 123 challenges is 5.64, or whatever. The average score is a statistic that is already computed for us on our profile page. It would probably be a relatively easy proposition then, for the admims to compute where our average score places us with respect to all other a) members, b) participants, c) people with the same camera, d) people who have entered more/less challenges than us, etc. These values could be stated (accurately and mathematically) in terms of percentile rank.
I think this would accomplish what the OP was looking for in a way that makes sense mathematically, and ties the concept of placement directly to a meaningful quantity, like average score.
