I used to use elements to take my raw files off my camera, and then I would use CS2 to edit them. I deleted elements thinking I didn't need it anymore...now I can't figure out how to pull the raw images off my camera. I thought Adobe Bridge did that, but there is no import option. I try to import directly through CS2 and the dialog comes up saying "select pictures to import" but the box is blank even though there are 15 pictures on my CF card.
WTF??? I thought Bridge was supposed to handle importing raw files and even editing them....how do I pull the images off my camera? |

Just copy the files off your CF card into a folder on your hard drive. You can do this by using a card reader. Then open the RAW file through CS2 and the RAW file converter will automatically open up the file. |

In Adobe Bridge...try double clicking on MY COMPUTER. It should then bring up all your drives. Your computer should read your camera as a hard drive.

ok I found my camera in My Computer - it only displays for a short time apparently...but why should I have to use Windows to pull pictures off my camera when I have a program the stature of CS2?
Yes I've been turning it on and off at random intervals because it goes to sleep - I just saw it come up in My Computer though...I have to have my computer open before i turn the camera on and then watch for it because it dissapears when the camera falls asleep.

so you go to CS2 & go to file- browse. when that comes up you should be able to see your camera there too. |

When you say "Pull pictures off my camera".......do you just mean open them up? In PS, you should be able to open up the images right from your camera just as you would your C drive.

In Bridge you may have to refresh the directory tree for the camera drive to show up. (unless you open Bridge after you connect your camera)

From Bridge -> Help
Acquiring digital images from cameras
You should copy images from a digital camera to your hard drive before editing them in Photoshop or ImageReady. If you use a media card reader, or if you connect to a camera that appears as a drive on your computer, you can use Adobe Bridge to move the files to your destination folder. You can also use the software that came with your camera, Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) or Image Capture (Mac OS). For more information on using Windows Image Acquisition or Image Capture, see your computer documentation.
Also,...
To import images from a digital camera using WIA
Certain digital cameras import images using Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) support. When you use WIA, Photoshop works with Windows and your digital camera or scanner software to import images directly into Photoshop.
Note: WIA is available only in Windows XP.
Choose File > Import > WIA Support.
Choose a destination in which to save your image files on your computer.
Make sure that Open Acquired Images in Photoshop is selected. If you are importing a large number of images, or if you want to edit the images later, deselect Open Acquired Images.
To save the imported images directly into a folder whose name is the current date, select Unique Subfolder.
Click Start.
Select the digital camera from which to import images.
Note: If the name of your camera does not appear in the submenu, verify that the software and drivers were properly installed and that the camera is connected.
Choose the image or images you want to import:
Click the image from the list of thumbnails to import the image.
Hold down Shift and click multiple images to import them at the same time.
Click Select All to import all available images.
Click Get Picture to import the image.
Bridge and PS Help is pretty robust. You may find additional info to solve you're problem. |

Thanks everyone...I did the straightforward fix and went out and got a PCMCIA CF card reader that will show up as another drive on my computer when I put my CF card in it...
BTW...WIA support through windows XP does not recognize raw files...it will say that there are no images on your camera. |
