How sweet! What a beautiful photo for a little guy. And a ribbon. Wow! I also noticed that you used to have a sony sybershot. Was it like mine.

It is great that your mom kept that photo all these years.

Your fan,
Sonja

How cute, see you had a wonderful perception of color even in 3rd grade if I calculated correctly.

Also you gave me an idea of what to do with a certain little boys very first night photo he took Monday night....

Not to bad for a 6 year olds first photo with Mommy's big camera that he isn't allowed to touch without Mommy! LOL

Wow, John.

I can already see in your "Ducks" a sense of composition and color! A real prodigy!

Great duck picture, it deserved a ribbon! Your pics are really good, and almost all ribbons in your top 5... amazing. If I ever get just one ribbon I'll be a happy camper. :)

Hmmm... not sure I'm in the Official Fan Club - you said that entry was on purchase of a bona fide JMS print from the DPC Prints gallery!!!!

;)

BUT I couldn't resist reading the thread anyway and so had my second snorting of tea moment of the DPC day - it's sooooooooo kewte...

I love your mohican ducks - they are sweet.

The saddest thing is my mum and dad still have several of this kind of effort (from both sis and I) framed and on the walls all over their house!

Aah no - we were asking how to join said Fan Club in the DPC Fanatics chat room recently - he was joking that membership would be set in the region of $25 or would be given free to all who purchased one of his prints!!!

If we're setting up Fan Clubs, can I mention Gordon? I DON'T like to make his ego any bigger (you know those darn Scots!) but I do think he has a talent and a creative eye that is underrated on this site!

Very nice -- that with or without a star filter?

My solution was to get Isaac his own camera so he wouldn't have to use mine...that's a Fuji A101 -- about $100 after rebate. But his entries were mostly with my Olympus...if you want a laugh, read the comments on his "Cloudy Bridge" photo and remember that he can't yet...
His birthday self-portrait:

And yes, I'm a fan of John's, although I try not to join any clubs...
Still waiting for an explanation...

Yes that photo was taken with a 4 flare star filter.

My solution to him wanting to take photos with my camera is when we go out he carries the tripod and then when he sees something he wants to take a photo of we set the tripod up and of course everything is set on automatic and he goes for it. That photo which actually isn't to bad would have been so much better if I had locked all 3 legs of the tripod.

Strange though how I had a Fuji Fine Pix 2600 Zoom that he could use but somehow Dad took it over when I got my DiMAGE and now the poor kid isn't allowed to touch the Fuji but he can handle the DiMAGE, something is definately not right.

Love the comments one the cloudy bridge and I understand completely what you mean. Poor kid can't even read them yet. I know my little guy might have made it through part of them but not all of them.

I don't think Isaac's ever used the tripod. But he's very careful to always put on the safety strap -- I've dropped the camera more often than he has! I like him hand-holding it -- I would rather he practice his compositional skills than end up with a super-sharp image, but he's pretty steady anyway. Just had a problem with the anti-redeye flash, where he'd lower the camera after the pre-flashes but just before the exposure flash -- he's learned how to avoid taking so many pictures of feet.

First grade...1975...I think that was the first year I had to apply for unemployment insurance...

As much as I want Kris to handhold even I will admit at the speed we used for the nightphotos I can't even get a sharp image without the tripod, now he has taken photos with the Fuji without using the tripod but I don't let him use the DiMage without the tripod.

Well, I can't do night photos either! Mostly, so long as he's participating and happy, it doesn't matter much how you do it.
If Fuji were smart they'd cut the price of that A101 to $69 and market it as a kids camera -- it's just about perfect for them (very light) and takes quite decent pictures. And the junky "kids" cameras out there cost 40 bucks anyway.

If Fuji was smart they would develop a whole line of kids cameras, the software that comes with them is so easy to use! I really like letting him use the 2600 Zoom when I can pry it out of Dad's hands, its the right size too for the little fingers.

Well I'd say get dad a cheap Olympus like mine, but these Fujis seem pretty good...I took this with Isaac's camera while driving to work yesterday morning -- cropped and resized to 50% of original, but otherwise unedited:

Sssh don't talk to loud Dad is around here somewhere hope he doesn't see this thread...lol or he is going to start about how much my camera cost and he has a right to take the old digital. But hey I let "Dad" use the DiMAGE when he can get it away from me...he photographed an entire fashion show last weekend with it.
