| I know that protruding back element of the DX lenses is ill suited for 35mm cameras, but is this conditional or absolute. I have a Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4.0 AT-X 124AF Pro DX I'd like to use on my film cameras and it doesn't look like back element is sticking out that much. Of course, experimenting with this is not my cup of tea. Has anyone tried it? Did it work? |

Tokina Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon Digital Cameras
Description: The AT-X 124 AF PRO DX lens is Tokinaâs first lens designed for use exclusively on Canon and Nikon Digital SLR cameras having an APS-C sized sensor.
I think this description sort of answers your question...specially the exclusively part.

ralphnev: don't hit or don't fit. I am concerned about the mirror not hitting the back element - so the typo is funny.
Banmorn: exclusivity seems to be more of a marketing term here. I've seen comments a la 'fit DXs onto 35mm at your own risk' which presumes that some fit and some don't. Do I get it right that the back elements are different from lens to lens? |

Don't know...I am not into experimenting either and would hate to see something go awry with the lens or camera or both. PM Kirbic as he has a handle on these things, at least from the Canon POV.

they fit fine & don't hit the mirror
the only lens that i've heard has consistant problems is the peleng 8mm (not a dx)
and of course, lens that are meant to have the mirror locked up ... (various old nikkors)
