Does anyone know where I can get info on large format dye sub printers? The largest I've been able to find are 8x12 (Kodak's Professional 1400).

Thanks for any help!
Brian

You seem to be dedicated to this project.
If I was in your spot, I would wait to purchase the printer. You can invest that money into the product that everyone will see. You can have beautiful prints made at mpix and they are very reasonably priced. They can even mount them for you. You will get very professional results whereas if you do all your own work, who knows how they will turn out? Not saying you are a schlock, it just sounds like you have no experience at this.
Have you priced out the per print cost of using your own printer vs having someone else do it? Suppose you mess up a few prints while you are learning to dry mount? Isn't that going to deplete your savings? How many prints will you have to sell to pay for the printer? To me, if money is critical, it would be very important to make every penny work. You do what you are great at and pay someone else for what they are expert at.
I have done many different types of crafts and what I eventually learned was it was more economical if I didn't try to do everything myself. At first thought it seems the opposite. But there are things that take time and practice to do well. There is a lot a waste while learning. Save the printer until you are selling a large volume of work.
Just some things to think about.

Hmm, those are some good thoughts pcody. The biggets thought is the instant gratification of having prints on hand when I need them and having more control over the process and quality. But I assume someplace like MPix has a good satisfaction gaurantee.

I'm looking at mpix prices... I take it that for an 8x10 it is $1.99 for the print and then an additional $2.50 for the mounting?

I don't think there are any places that don't offer to replace prints.
The metalic prints are a little higher priced. You get a discount for ordering 11 or more of the same file. Do the first run as a proof, then reorder in bulk if you like the results.
They get them out remarkably fast. I had my last batch in about 2 days.
