Is anyone familiar with the olympus lens system? I have an olympus e-volt e300. I bought it because I was told it was the next "new thing", and the reviews seemed good. I'm actually pretty happy with it but would like to upgrade my lenses.
When I first bought it I noticed Olympus had basically two levels of lenses (ED and EZ). I didn't notice that the lenses were for use with only one model of camera. My question is this:
When I look to shop for the 50-200mm Zuiko ED lens, I notice that it says for use with the E-1. That is the lens I want, but obviously don't want to buy it if it won't do me any good. I also want the 14-54mm Zuiko ED lens but notice the same thing. As I said I hadn't noticed this when I first bought the camera. Are the lenses compatible with the E300? I'm wondering if I'm going to regret buying the Olympus.
thanks

Aren't they releasing the Sigma 50-500 for olympus mount soon? Or did I imagine that? That would be one monster lens with the oly's crop factor!
PS> I think the lenses you mentioned will work on your camera... maybe you can check on dpreview or b&h's website?

| All the Zuiko Digital glass will be compatible with the E-300, it's just that the designations probably differentiate between consumer-level and pro-level glass. The E-1 was a weathersealed body, so it was important that the pro-level glass be weathersealed as well (and generally on a higher level of quality). |

Here I thought it was the E-330 that was the next "new thing" what with being the only dSLR with a live lcd viewfinder. Played with one last week for an hour or so. Nice camera and a rather user friendly menu.
One thing of note to know about Olympus lenses, they claim they'll be putting out a new lens at LEAST every 6 months. That can only be good as the choice of lenses now seems rather small.
Though with the 2.0 crop, man does that make a diff! |

when i bought my camera it was last year. the e-330 wasn't out yet. i just haven't been able to upgrade until now. sometimes i wish i'd bought a canon or nikon, but i'm still new enough to photography that i think the e-300 serves my purposes for now. thanks for your help.

Eric | Every time I have to clean my sensor I wonder if I should have bought an Oly.

so that's a good point. I do like having that function. how often are people having to clean their sensors? if people are doing it often then it probably is quite worth it. Thanks again.

Olympus lens road map
I don't know how to get to this pdf file directly but if you go to the link above and look at the list of lenses on the left, at the bottom of the list it says in blue writing 2005 olumpus lens road map. Click on that to download a chart of all the lenses available. They are divided into standard, high grade and super high grade. Notice that the kit lens that comes with the E-1 is high grade, while both the lenses that come with the 300 are standard grade.
