I got an IR filter for Christmas, but I've just recently begun to play around with it and with post processing them.

I would love some feedback on these and any suggestions for good PP workflows, as well...

Thanks,
S

To help others shoot IR, can you please enter exposure and apperture, and the lens you used? Thanks!

The first one should be called "Cotton Candy"

Ok... I've updated the shooting data on both shots...

I may also rename the first one now... good suggestion sdunsmoor...

Any other comments? Anyone else have any IR shots they'd like to share?

They are very interesting shots - what specific filter did you use? They Hoya line?

I love these shots! They are super awesome - and not just because they're on a golf course!

Very nice work especially for your first time out. I'm impressed. It took me a month or so to get something decent out of my camera. Having said that, my Oly camera is not very IR sensitive so it takes a lot of work and manipulating to get a respectable picture. I also have the Hoya R72 filter. Here are a few of my shots.

Does anyone know if the Canon EOS 20D is IR sensitive? I just recently bought the camera but haven't researched it yet.

Pearlseyes, the Canon 20D does have a IR blocking filter, and it can be removed. But that is something risky. Do it if you are absolutely certain you can, and if you are good with tools and tinkering with gadgets ;-) Here's the link. I am sure there are other tutorials out there on how to do it. Linky

Thanks for the link Ignite but that would scare the el crapo out of me. I'd have to have a professional do it for sure. I can't even paint my toenails without shaking.

No... I don't mind... I know most people shooting IR are after the white, snow covered look, but I think, at least for this shot, I much prefer the cherry bloom look of the pink...

Very good results for your 1st attempts. Do you set the white balance with the filter on against grass or sky like me?
I must say i do prefer white foliage and blue skies.
I have just got me a nikon d50 just for infrared and although the weather has been terrible i can see it`s gonna be a great ir camera.
I have found it focuses fine with the ir filter on and i get better exposures with the eyepiece blocked.
A couple i shot yesterday but it was very windy.

i've been trying to set the white balance against the ground with the filter on... though i need to play around with it more. see what results i can get w/ different settings.

i've also thought to bring some electrical tape to cover the eyepiece... i'm not using it anyway ;) i have used my thumb to cover it in a few shots...

another question... what software are you using for post? do you convert from raw w/ something other than you're using for the channel swapping?

for those interested, i used combinations of raw shooter essentials, paint shop pro x and psp cs2 for these...

Which Canon SLR can take IR images - does anyone know?

Any...

but you're better off with the likes of Canon 20Da, which has the internal filter removed for better astrophotography.

I'm confused..

Any camera can take infrared but some are more sensitive than others.
A canon 300d can take ir like this but needs around 8 second exposures at iso 200 f9.
My nikon d50 would need 1 second or less.
The olympus c-2020 can be used hand held at around 1/60th.
Lots of ir information.
