I emailed Canon about my problem with the top LCD not showing some things on my 30D. 30 minutes after I e-mailed them I got this response:

Dear James Stanton:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. I am sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with the top LCD screen.

Regrettably, this is an issue that needs the attention of a service technician. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

For factory service, please forward your digital camera to one of the Factory Service Centers shown below.
Please send your camera to one of the following Factory Service Centers:

Canon Factory Service Center
100 Jamesburg Road
Jamesburg, NJ 08831
Tel.# (732)521-7007

or

Canon Factory Service Center
15955 Alton Parkway
Irvine, CA 92618
Tel.# (949) 753-4200

Usually, warranted repairs are completed within approximately ten to fourteen business days of the camera's arrival at the Factory Service Center.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

I bolded the bad part.

you gotta film slr? i got an original canon rebel for $23.00 off e-bay - could be something fun to do while you wait.

Could have been worse. They could have told you have rectal cancer.

I Know, I know... a very bad joke.

DONT they know that that is like saying you will have to do without your right arm for fourteen days???? This is why I haven't sent back my Nikon to have the sensor cleaned. FOUR WEEKS for me! NO WAY. I make due. LOL...
05/24/2006 02:35:07 PM · #8
Thing is, a sensor can be cleaned by the user. Rex's problem is a tad harder to fix. :)

espy- I reccomend the Copperhill Cleaning system.

Rex babe, I feel your pain. I was 6 weeks sans D70 when it bwoke. It sucked bigtime.

Where is this Copperhill Cleaning System? Thanks for the suggestion by the way, and rex, good luck to you!

thats shitty indeed,

luckily i live about 3 miles from the irvine location

Rex, I feel your pain. I cracked up my D70 and lens. It took 12 weeks to get it back (because of a seconday insurance carrier.) It took me 4 days to buy another body, the withdrawl was so bad.

I needed a cracked rear lcd replaced on my 20D. I live about an hours drive from the Irvine facility so I drove it down in person. I think they told me the same amount of time to expect it back. They called me in 4 days to come pick it up. On top of the cracked lcd, they replaced all the shutter mechanisms, cleaned the sensor, and gave it an overhaul. I paid for the lcd, but everything else was done for no charge. :-) Back to the point, it may get back to you sooner than expected. Good luck.

That's the same service location where my 20d is right now. I shipped it to them last thursday, it arrived there on Monday, and I got an estimate notification today. I paid for my repair online and they said it would be up to 10 days until the repair was completed... but it could be sooner.

I have the paperwork here to join Canon Professional Services and I never bothered to get it filled out. Being a member of that gets you priority turnaround time on repair work, among other benefits.

pm sent. Where was that one thread where you could test out lenses through Canon if you signed up but you had to have so many SLR bodies to qualify

You can borrow equipment through Canon Professional Services with some limitations... I'm not sure of the other you may have seen...

Is there a link to that or is all that provided in the documents you sent me already?

I just got home from the Irvine location. While I was there they were telling people 7-10 days for repairs. Maybe that didn't include shipping time. They cleaned my sensor in 2 hours with no charge so I'm a happy camper.

Well camera was shipped this morning. Next day would put it there Tuesday May 30th but was $40. I shipped it 2 Day for $17. So that will put it there on the 31st of May. Maybe they will be quick about it.

I feel your pain, Rex. But I know you'll survive (it may just not feel that way!). I find it very difficult to be patient on something like this. Had a similar experience a while back with a computer. You just get so used to having it in your life.

Here's to a Speedy Return!

So far, my units have spent almost as much time malfunctioning or at Canon's repair facility as they have with me in the last 5 months.

:|

Canon's repair service is an catastrophe. They lose things. They have little to no communication. And you'll be lucky if you get it all fixed.

Honestly, and it's really sad, but I can no longer recommend Canon equipment.
