Architecture is about buildings...or something built?
How about parts of a building, like a window or a door?
Is a barn ok? How about a doghouse or a beaver hut?
Wait, bridges are fine right? How about an airplane - that requires a design, correct?
Any limits or thoughts on using landscape vs portrait mode? Is one more suited for architecture than the other?
Is there any possible way to include pets, babies, or flowers in this challenge? If yes - what do you think? Good, bad, indifferent?
Just thought it would be a good time (before voting this time) to air our opinions on this subject. Have at it! ;^)
BTW. Here are the actual challenge details:
"Creatively capture an interesting photograph of architecture." |

Great question! I'd say it fits within the boundaries of the challenge. Anybody else? ;^) |

I totally agree.
But that doesn't matter and you know it.
It's what the typical voter thinks and you know they won't like it.
They want spires and bridges and sunsets in the background.
And dark gloomy pictures with gothic elements and castles and towers.
Probably :-)

Architecture:
1. The art and science of designing and erecting buildings.
2. Buildings and other large structures: the low, brick-and-adobe architecture of the Southwest.
3. A style and method of design and construction: Byzantine architecture.
4. Orderly arrangement of parts; structure: the architecture of the federal bureaucracy; the architecture of a novel.
5. Computer Science. The overall design or structure of a computer system, including the hardware and the software required to run it, especially the internal structure of the microprocessor.

Yeah, I think they will know what it is, and the votes will reflect it's use and purpose. :)
We can expect to see landmarks from all over the world. The Capitol, the Eifel, Mansions, Washington Monument, Golden Gate Bridge, the Space Needle, and of course those wonderful landmarks in Europe such as Big Ben, the ornate Thames Ride, Sydney's Opera House, Castles, etc, etc, all dressed and clad with night lights, stars, and sunsets.
I've traveled many places now on the Gulf Coast of the US, and have yet to see anything quite ornate enough to photograph. This may just be the first time I have to sit out a challenge. There is only ONE thing I could possibly enter, and I am not traveling 2 hours at the cost of a full gas tank for a 5.0 score :)

^ 5 Espy!!! LOL! You made my day! We country folk need our own dag-gone architecture challenge. I believe I have some outhouse pictures around somewhere (Meow). Though, from my office window I can see part of our court house, and I like our court house.
But, the real question is are flowers architechture? I mean, they're designed by God, right? ;) |

How about a watermill or old-style log cabin? Some of those out your way.

Potential for a free-study it sounds like. ;^) |

Windmills, water towers, Grain Silos...etc. However it is going to be all about the angle in which you take it. Get low and shoot up make em look really big, wide or fish eyed... A little rust might not hurt, but might also be out of the box... :) |

The (insert old building) problem is there's pictures of ever' last one of them in my porfolio already. Everyone would see it and say, "There's Ragamuffingirl's entry...." There's one about 3 hours from here that I really want to see, but I really can't afford gas to go anywhere right now. Hey, some people love churches and cathedrals, I love old (don't you wish you knew?).

edit to add: you can also use the hide feature...then unhide them after.

I would not be opposed to flowers! LOL...This is basically a free study if we go by God's designs, right!? :) |

How do we search old challenges? I clicked on Archives, but I don't want to have to go through every single past challenge. I just want to look at the winners from the first two Architecture challenges. |

These would all fit, but they won't measure up to what is expected to be seen in this challenge, IMO. One can only try, but gosh, when I think about and see in my minds eye the entries already? There is just no way. I recently did a Silo shot myself, but put a water tower up against the Eifel? Nahhhh. LOL...No doubt I will enter something. I really hate to leave a challenge unentered, so I don't know. I will have to really think about this one. I need something out of the box. |

Go to "challenges" then to "history" and look down that list for past Archictecture challenges. It will say Architecture in bold.
Here is Architecture ll

Use the 'Challenges/History' link. Once the page loads, use key combo 'Ctrl-f' and type architecture in the textbox to find the past two architecture results. |

None of this matters. Let me be the first to say that all entries DNMC.
Now that I got that out of the way... this should be interesting. I live a bit too far from a big city to get the shiny, new, BIG buildings, but work in an area with lot of industry, much of it shut down for years. There is a ton of rusting factories, steel mills, and such around here that are really cool looking but somehow I don't think it will compare to shiny, new, and BIG. And I suspect the inevitable DNMC comments. |

I'm not so sure. If the photo is good, I think it should do well. Top ten in Architecture II include bridges (blue was a bridge), old marble steps, and a ruined manor house. Only one - seventh - was recognizable as "big, shiny, and new". |

I looked at the previous challenge after I posted. This might be really fun after all! The only problem is that I spend WAY too much time and gas driving around at lunchtime looking for places to take pictures. |
