For those that are more experts in life, know that I am not an expert on exercises, especially sit ups.

This is my last entry to the Creative Thinking Exercises. Some people did well in actually taking advantage of these threads, others, as usual, did not.

I planned on 10 total exercises for those brave enough to stimulate the right side of the brain.

"If taken in conjunction with each other, you might actually learn something about yourself."...Dr. Weisman, professor, NWMSU.

Before the last exercise starts, please answer the following personal questions.

1) How many rings do you have?

2) Where is your head?

3) What is death?

There are only correct responses, incomplete answers may not be considered.

You have been taking pictures all day long. You look at your memory card in your camera. Out of 100 pictures available, 50 pictures have been taken.

Is your memory card half full?.....
....or is it half empty?

WHY?

05/19/2006 04:44:48 PM · #2
It is neither. I simply have 50 more opportunities to make the best of the situation.
05/19/2006 04:46:48 PM · #3
1) More than I wear at any one time.
2) Running in circles.
3) The ending of the body and continuation of the soul.

It's half full, because I am used to having a memory card that allows me to take more than 100 pictures.

It's half full because my mother thinks I take and save way too many pictures.

It's half full because the physical pain I felt when I was out shooting has made this day seem longer than it should be.

i replace it with another empty one so i don't get too busy with questions like this :-)

1) How many rings do you have?

Only the one I used to keep for a friend, long lost.

2) Where is your head?

A million places at once and not one of them long enough to finish a thought.

3) What is death?

Getting to work on Monday after you've been up all night coding and realize that you have to get to work.

You have been taking pictures all day long. You look at your memory card in your camera. Out of 100 pictures available, 50 pictures have been taken.

Is your memory card half full?.....
....or is it half empty?

Those first 50 shots of are a guinea pig, and he just won't stand still long enough for you to properly capture him, then in your second 50 you get that one perfect shot where he looks at you straight on and stands there just long enough for you to capture him.

It's always half-empty. Then if it fills up, cheat and buy a new card!

1. 6

2. On the dark side of my neck.

3. The destruction of life as we know it, and the beginning of life as we don't

4. It's full. I just haven't realized its potential yet.

1.) None
2.) Above my neck, unless i'm sleeping (or being dumb, then i can't say where ...)
3.)When i've been on DPC all night and didn't finish my math homework

It doesn't matter, because i know i haven't been taking enough pictures for a full day.

In deep thoughts, reflecting on my life.
(some would say it's up my ass, but I disagree)

3) What is death?

Something way too close for comfort lately. I was almost able to answer this first hand, but then again where I would have been, there probably wouldn't be any keyboards....

Very much a half full situation.

Easy - what is already on there is captured forever and each click represents something important enough to me to press the shutter and preserve forever.

The card is just too damn small. I want more, I need more, I WILL have more!
05/19/2006 05:38:21 PM · #12
The same as the number of ripples flowing out when a drop of water falls into the ocean.
.
Some say in the clouds, and I agree. It's more than eyes, ears , mouth. It's also the brain and all the ideas that exist. Ideas that flow out and make my world better or worse, happy or sad. Ideas that can build a rocket to explore other worlds or dive deep into the ocean. Ideas don't have any boundries, so my head is at once everything in the universe and a specific location within the world.
.
Death isn't so easy to understand. To me it's the instant that the spark has left. So the biggest question for me is what is life. Where does that spark come from and why is it so fragile that it could be put out with so little effort and yet sometimes it lingers on when everyone wishes it gone.
.
Sometimes half full and sometimes half empty. Half full when I'm happy and want to capture everything and fear there isn't enough memory for everything.

1) How many rings do you have? 1 worn on the middle finger of my left hand.

2) Where is your head? Physically on top of my neck. Mentally in a state of disarray.

3) What is death? The end of the life cycle.

Is your memory card half full?.....
....or is it half empty?

Since I am taking pictures - filling up the card - it is half full. If I was transferring to computer - emptying the card - it would be half empty.

1) How many rings do you have?
None.

2) 2) Where is your head?
Here.

3) What is death?
There are two kinds: one's thinking about things we want or fear -that is practicing being dead before we die. The other's accepting change and passage -that is being what we are while we are so.

b) You have been taking pictures all day long. You look at your memory card in your camera. Out of 100 pictures available, 50 pictures have been taken.

Is your memory card half full?.....
....or is it half empty?

One half is full, the other empty.

b) WHY?
See for yourself.

Well, just FYI I have been following but why must I post here? For for your sake? Does that make me not brave enough?

It makes you cautious.

And so your answer is cautious too! I guess in answer (& to your PM's as well) is-

Why? Why do I have to answer here? (and I do understand this is your last...) I mean are you planning on analyzing each response individually? Or will I be able to "learn" on my own without posting here?

So- there is the question in a less bullying manner :0) k?

1) How many rings do you have? One but I don't wear it.

2) Where is your head? Wherever it wants to go.

3) What is death? An important part of life.

I does not matter what I have on the card. The "card" in my head has room for the pictures that I charish the most.

rings: an infinite amount, but I'll name a few
I have a ring on my finger, a bunch in the jewelry box and a few in my ears (oh yeah, one in my bellybutton)
I have a ring around the bathtub
there's a ring to my name (at least in a foreign accent)
there are several rings in my phone
there's a boxing ring in my mind

head: the outside is attached to my body, but the rest of it eludes me.

Nietsche: Truth is a mobile army of marching metaphors

death: a fear for most people, a intriguing enigma for some, and an antagonizing threat used by the rest

the memory card: I once heard an engineer's joke that said the glass was neither half full nor half empty, but twice as big as it needed to be, however, I don't think a photographer would feel the same way about a memory card... lol

1. About 10. I only wear 2 of them.
2. Always somewhere else. I'm a dreamer.
3. Something that has changed my life over and over again. I lost my parents and some other people I loved much. It changed my life, in a positive way. I'm enjoying life more, even the negative parts of life. I don't fear death.

About the memorycard:

It's half full. Yes, I know what that means in psychology lol.

1) Like a tree, I almost have 45 rings. One for each year I have been alive. The more recent rings are bigger, and thicker than the older rings because of the knowledge I have been patient enough to obsorb.

2) The head is down the hall from the master bedroom. It's a good place to enjoy the newspaper.

3) We go through 5 stages of grief when we lose someone we love; denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.(Elizabeth Kubler-Ross)
The same could be said for the update button.

The memory card is half empty. An opportunity to come up with more ideas, using my imagination, to fill up the rest of the card.

1: One, but it's infinite: "a ripple widening from a single stone / winding around the waters of the world."

2: My head is not a "where", it's a "how".

3. "Death is the mother of beauty."

bonus points to those who can identify sources for 1 and 3

For the card, it's a twist on the old conundrum isn't it? For the optimist, the glass is always half-full: but for the optimistic photographer, that's a half-empty card :-) Opportunity awaits!

1 rings like Rilke (Rainer Maria), 3 like Wallace Stevens.

Wallace Stevens is correct. Theodore Roethke for the other, not Rilke. But you're right, it sounds like soemthing Rilke might say :-)
