Originally posted by DrAchoo: No, if it's double-fault, Qart gets a bye. I don't see any other fair way to implement it.
As a note to people, I know life gets in the way, but we did make a committment here. Just because a hard challenge comes along doesn't mean we can all turn tail and run. I give full props to artan who shot something despite physical pain.
We'll see how much more of this goes along, but I will note that when the bracket was invitational there were no missed entries until the final four when ursula apologized profusely for having had no time to shoot. |
I hear ya Doc, and hopefully this doesn't disqualify me from any future LoD's - I almost always live up to my commitments. :-( Trust me, my lack of entry wasn't due to lack of effort, even though I doubted my sucky DPC Cinema score would get me into the 2nd round (and it didn't). I had a teacher shot all planned out for Environmental Portrait - worked it out ahead of time with the teacher - planned the shot so that only the kids "hands" would be showing (as not to get any kids faces, so no need for parent permissions, etc) - printed out a few DPC web pages to better explain purpose and use of the picture to the teacher and took a sample shot with my wife and kids to SHOW her what I wanted to do. The teacher was fine with it. Day before the shoot, the Principal nixed the whole thing. I would have liked to go into the class and take the shot away, but I didn't want to get the teacher in trouble.
Plan B was a shot of a fireman at the station (either on the truck, or by the gear, etc.). Visited two fire stations, and called a third (3 different towns) - all the Chiefs said "no way - not city policy - needs official city approval, bla bla bla.".
Plan C (last ditch effort fallback plan) - My Sunday morning ritual is to get the Sunday paper and a couple of coffees for the wife and I at the local coffee. There are "two" girls that know me and who usually work every Sunday, so I figured this was a total fail safe plan. I walk in with camera equipment in hand ready to take a few quick shots andâ€Â¦.BOTH of them are taking the day off for Mothers Day! I tried to explain to the guy behind the counter (someone I had not seen before) what I was trying to do..he wouldn't go for it.
So that is my long-winded story of the efforts made by a guy who didn't even win the 1st round with his measly 5.6 score. :-) I am a competitive guy, so I wasn't going to enter a crap shot just for the sake of entering, wouldn't be worth it. Sorry to disappoint - I take my commitments seriously (which is why I felt compelled to give this long explanation to people who most likely don't really care - but I do). :-) [FYI, this is not to spite others who did not submit - most of us do have other "day jobs". This is just my excuse. :-) ]

No worries macpapas. I remember your story and think they were all great ideas.
So for future rounds here is the rules implementation:
An entrant can forfeit BEFORE the results of the challenge in a PM to me. In this case their opponent will advance regardless of their score.
If an entrant forfeits AFTER a win, their former opponent can only advance at the discretion of the next round's opponent. The default is for the new opponent to get a bye round.
Examples:
A) Bob and Alice are opposed. Alice PM's me before the results saying she will be gone the next week and cannot enter a shot. She forfeits and Bob advances.
B) Dave and Cathy are opposed. Cathy beats Dave but then announces after she does not have an entry for the next round. Her new opponent was Erica. By default, Erica gets a bye for the next round unless she willingly offers to allow Dave to continue. There is no preconceived notion that this is the proper etiquette. This is the League of Death after all, not a stroll through the garden.

The only problem with this is that sometimes you don't know until the new challenge starts that you are unable to enter. I had every intention of entering the environmental portrait and had everything I needed ready but duty (and a paying customer) called. I have to have my priorities... :)

i'm with courtenay. i shot a bajillion photos last week, but no time to shoot for the challenge.
i don't think anyone should be made to feel bad for missing out. if they do take a dive, that's their choice. i'm very sorry i wasn't able to play this week (and, like macpapas, had a bunch of ideas ready). it wasn't that the challenge was "hard," which i don't particularly think it was.
in any event, isn't this supposed to be about having fun? |

Well, I'm officialy confused now (ok, its not difficult to do). At the want of another phrase, 'will I be playing with myself all week?'

his rules indicate that you have the option of competing against me, or opting to play with yourself :)
however, in my opinion, it wouldn't be fare (fair) for me to continue as dahkota put a nice beating to me last week
... so i'll respectfully bow out

dahkota and muckpond: Don't read too much into my post. I do really and truly realize life gets in the way. This is just a silly game on a site which already hands out virtual ribbons as the only reward. On the other hand, I do know there were other people who wanted to play and I feel bad for them when things like this happen.
Ecce: I guess it's time to start listening to The Divinyls "I touch myself" or the more subtle Cindi Lauper's "She Bop". You are on to the next round. Congrats! |

whoohoo! (though sad for those that could not submit). This morning I'd have taken on allcomers with a 7 after 17 votes but I'm now on a straight 6 so am maybe its a good thing I got a by? Its obviously a love/hate image lol (Anastasia, you seemed to love it going by your comment).

Another forfeit here so I guess my opponent goes through to the next round. Congrats to whoever you are, (keegbow?), and apologies to jenesis.

I wonder if I can make through to the final without actually facing anyone LOL. I suppose this competition is about putting an image in each week which can be a challenge in itself.
Bad luck bazz you would have ripped me apart.

Well, Larus has put me under pressure (he wants me to do good), its great to get into week two but I kind of feel a default week 2 chance is wrong (though gladly received) especially as he is almost 1 point above me in this challenge.

I'll take it anyway it comes makes me feel like Steven Bradbury He is now a sporting hero in Australia and all he really done was to compete at the top level, stayed on his skates and everyone around him fell over. Still an Olympic gold medal |

With season 1 of the League of death as well as the WPL, we've been putting in one or two submissions a week for the last 7 weeks. I just wanted a week off without having to touch the camera.
I should also apologise to Qart who was probably looking forward to a rematch....I know I was. :)

edit: Hasn't been 7 weeks but it sure feels like it. :)

Say What Bazz!?! You beat the pants off me and then didn't get a Env. Portrait in?? Awwww man, that sucks!! :-)
Hey, if Keegbow would like not to play with himself this week (which why wouldn't he) I did get a shot into Env. portrait so there is some competition (and I use this term lightly) there if you want it. :-)

Well, it seems like there are several did not enter the challenge peeps. I would love to be invited to the LoD III, would it be good (or bad) to not invite those that did not compete to the next season? (starting from season 3.

Well, that's good because I don't have much. :-)
Seriously though, if you'd rather take the bye and move on that's totally cool I would COMPLETELY understand. No skin off my back. Just thought I'd let you know that I was in on the slight chance you'd be up for it. :)

No it's fine by me this is all in fun. As much as I do like that Divinyls song it gets a bit lonely playing by yourself :)
