can this transmitter trigger a strobe monolait bowens?? anyone knows?

I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing that it probably will - although it wasn't designed for that purpose. There are much cheaper infrared transmitters if you haven't already bought it.

Alternatively, I think ebay has some small transmitters (wireless, not infrared) that are only about $75 each. That's a lot cheaper than Pocket Wizards (which is my preference, except for cost).

Anyway... the canon transmitter is sending out multiple bursts of light in order to instruct the slaves what to do. The slaves aren't just dumb slaves that simply fire when they see a flash. The master has them fire a pre-flash to measure the light, and then it tells them how much power to put out.

So yeah... while it will probably work (any flash at all will probably fire the bowens), it's a bit overkill.

thanks man, it was helpfull, the thing is that im going to buy a speedlight flash ex 580 blabla for event photo and stuff but i want to use it for a studio as well. the thing is, to do that i must get that red transmitter, and i want to be sure that that thing will trigger my bowens, or just no and must have wein trasmmiter thing.

The ST-E2 won't fire anything but the canon flash units.
