Ok. I've got the money, I've got a 30D, now it's time for a new lens!

I allready have the 50 mm prime lens from canon, the kit-lens with my 300D (I wanna throw that one out of the window since quite a while ;)), and a Sigma 70-300 mm macro blabla lens I never use anymore.

Basically the point is, I only use the 50 mm for a couple of months now.

I'm willing to give some money for it (like ±400 - 500 euros) but I have absolutely no idea what's good for me. I'm not planning on macro or landscapes, the main themes will be still-life & portraits.

Any thoughts? Need help!

still life and landscape doesn't really narrow down the lens search. My advice is to find photos you like and would like to take similar shots and look at what lens was used. Narrow it down to a handful and make a decision. I find that any decision I make w/ lenses always leaves me wanting another for something else. Its a vicious cycle.

Landscapes would want something wide. The canon 10-22mm seems to be one people like.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8

It has gotten great reviews from just about everyone and I intend on buying one in the near future.

Hope this helps.

The 24-70 is well over her budget. Do you read the posts well before you reply??

I second Charles. My husband swears by the Tamron 28-75 as do some others I know.

I am one of the Tamron 28-75mm evangelists. Excellent lens for a great price! I find this to be a great portrait lens. If you are leaning more toward the landscape side, Tamron has a new 17-50mm f/2.8 lens that just came out. That would give you a reasonable wide-end, and get you up to your 50mm length. Both would leave you with money left over.

If you think you lean toward the very tight individual portrait and are really hankering for a better telephoto lens, consider the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and the Canon 70-300 IS lenses.

I just gave recommendations, i didn't talk about money
he is free to buy or not, maybe later he can think of them, or maybe he will save more money to buy one of them or both.

I not a canon guy but now I am intrigued by the Tameron 28-75 2.8

it is about 275.00 eruos in the us. It has won a ton of ribbons.

I might get one for my Nikon!

P.S. The Rain Clear should be on the way to ya!

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 for sure. It's a sweet little lens. It's sharp, durable, and just all-around awesome. Use the money you save by purchasing this lens for a good polarizer and a good UV filter to go on it...you'll be all set. :)

How come everybody hates their kit lenses? I think mine takes pretty decent shots. Granted it's not a very fast lens out past about 35mm, but if you take your time with it in good light it actually takes really nice photos. I just took this one for the fun of it and cropped a section out of it. I think it has decent color and detail. It could even be better after some PP.

I'll add my $.02 for the Tamron 28-75. It's a great lens, I love mine! I'd reccomend it over any other.

I also like the Tamron 28-75 however in questionable light it does tend to hunt a bit when focusing
