ROFLMAO - not sure if you were being funny, but your comment just struck me as hilarious. Still laughing (wiping a tear from my eye).

Do a search for Still Life on google... you'll see all kinds of paintings and photos of still lifes.

Looking at Still Life I, you can see it has to be very still indeed.
This one fell all the way to number 33 because of few Ants :-)

Pls explain why a landscape does not qualify as still life.

because its a landscape... you can use a landscape as a background for your still life.. such as out a window.

Wikipedia has a great description of Still Life, plus go to ARt.com or google still life to see examples of still lifes

well to put it bluntly because it is a "landscape"... in artistic terms it's like saying why is a cat not a dog? a good landsacpe is about all about dynamic light interplaying with the natural world - a still life is usually static light and an artifical world.

"A still life is a work of art depicting a collection of usually inanimate objects, typically natural -- (flowers, game, sea shells and so on) -- or man-made domestic items -- (drinking glasses, foodstuffs, pipes, books and so on)." from Wikipedia.
So I think Still life is not just artifical world.
But I understand what you tried to convey. Thank you.

Thanks Di for suggesting wikipedia.

Still life, for the purposes of DPC and photography, appears to mean "free study with inanimate objects".

NOW they call for a 'Still Life' challenge! If only I'd waited a few days before thinking of this idea.

The room I shot it in has been decorated now, so I won't be reconstructing this shot :-)

Heh - when I saw the other thread, that's exactly what I thought, too! How 'bout if I just simply declare that this is an honorary Blue Ribbon shot in Still Life 1.5? It truly is an awesome shot!

Glad I could give you a laugh from my ignorance ;) But yea I guess I have a better understanding of it now. Thanks to all. I'll probably enter lenscap now.

I have a quick question. would any of you vote lower on a still life photo that had fire in it? (like a candle or lantern?) since fire does move a bit? just wondering

Google search for still life art featuring fire

I guess it depends on the context. Based on research I wouldn't take off for candles, but if it's the only subject, well, then maybe. :-/
