It does if you self dq on a rules violation. I can attest to that. :-D

I dont think there should be any self DQ's. Unless its something, Really strange, like model did not give me the okay. Or, if you know it could be DQ'd because you did something wrong.

But shots that dont do well, entering the wrong contest, and DNMC are not excuses to take out the photo. If you made the mess, you have to roll in it. I have, many times.

Why is forgetting to get a model release any better reason to do a self-DQ than entering the wrong challenge? They are both errors by the photographer that don't have anything to do with editing rules.

And why should an entrant be allowed to do a self-DQ when your shot is in violation of the rules and should be DQ'ed anyway? All that does is save you the embarassment of the pink stripe. How is that any more honorable than a self-DQ to save your average?

Each one of us could probably come up with what they personally thought was a legit reason to do a self-DQ. But we would never be able to get a majority to agree on them. The rule that allows a self-DQ does not require that any reason be given. And that was not an accidental ommission on the part of SC when the rule was written. All you have to do is request it before voting ends. You don't have to justify it to anyone but yourself. You don't even have to tell anyone about it if you don't want to. SC will know. They need to keep track of them in case you mess up before your 25 submission probation ends. But they are not going to blab it around. The self-DQ is a feature of the site that is there for you to use if you want to. If you don't like it go to the Web Site Suggestions forum and propose a rule change that bans it, or limits it. Bashing people who choose to use it ain't going to make anything any different, or improve your photography.

Sounds like you already have made up your mind?

Buck up, Tallbloke! If life hands you lemons, just squeeze them on lobster.

Or you can start threads like this and tell everyone what your thinking making it virtually imposible to self DQ in the end without it being blatantly obvious to anyone who cares to check

Brilliant, I'm a genius
